Charles/Erik, Marriage/Matchmaking AU temperance_k June 25 2011, 21:30:20 UTC
In celebration of gay marriage being legalized in New York, I'd love Charles and Erik in a modern day AU. Specifically, I'd like it to be an AU where Erik's mom is alive and adorably overbearing, pushing Erik to 'make an honest man' out of Charles. Of course, Erik could always claim it wasn't legal before, but now...

Cue late night call after the signing from mom, who is full of ideas about the wedding, and Erik freaking out because he's never actually asked Charles about wanting to get married and is too awkward!shark to start now.

Whether they're mutants or not is up to authoranon, though I would like a more mundane AU where Erik has to deal with the daily grind of ordinary work, powers or no.

Thank you lovely authors!

OMG, I love this. ;_; I love that you're not just exploring Erik's hesitations about getting married, but you're also exploring how it hurts them to not be able to marry, which is just so perfect, I don't even know how to properly express my love.

NEEDLESS TO SAY, I adore this fic already, and every little tidbit we get about how they meet and how they live. (Charles as a high school teacher! Erik as a translator!)

I do have to frown on Erik for missing Charles' graduations, though. PLAN YOUR TIME OFF BETTER, ERIK. :(

I'm so glad that you're enjoying it!

Don't be too mad at Erik for missing those graduations. I chose graduation because a) no one in my family goes to any graduation after high school (we graduate, we just don't go, and b) Charles doesn't seem too bothered about his graduation in XFC other than as an occasion for drinking. In my brain, it was more about Charles wanting to throw something in Erik's face than Erik just being shit at life.

Oh no, I understand! XD People really can't decide what happens with work and such, and while graduations are important, I have definitely seen college students and grad students be so fed up with academics that they don't want to make a big deal out of walking.

And actually, I can totally see Erik as the kind of guy who isn't cruel enough to miss his boyfriend's graduation, but maybe just a little befuddled by its significance. It makes him endearingly clueless, not a b*stard. ♥

But yes, you've been doing a great job! Keep up the good work! :D

I have really been enjoying this fic. I love how you portray the relationship between Charles and Erik. They seem to understand each other so well.

This is so cute. ;_; I love that they've somehow managed to adopt Alex, and their entire conversation (redecorating!) is just further proof of their awesomeness. I also love how you've managed to weave in things that show how long they've been together, like Erik commenting on how Charles can make him relieved and exasperated at the same time and how they can't sleep without each other.

jfieoafjlea I JUST LOVE THIS STORY SO MUCH. ;_;

Question for you, OP: I do plan to capitalize on the "can't visit each other in the ICU" thing at some point, but I was wondering whether you have a preference on whether or not Charles gets paralyzed at a later date.

I FEEL THE ANGST COMING. *Prepares tissues*

I don't have a preference! Go with whatever feels right, authoranon!

Don't worry. The angst isn't coming for some time yet.

The problem is that I'm torn. I half really want Charles kicking ass at wheelchair rugby (a violent and sexy sport) and half want him making an idiot of himself with really bad dancing at Raven's wedding. If you don't have a preference, though, I foresee myself leaving it out.

Does your timeline not allow for him dancing before he gets paralyzed?

In the end, your story is your story. I want to see it play out however you imagine it to go. :D

I'm not sure yet. I have vague ideas but this fic is going to wind up being ridiculously long...
