Modern AU, where an older Alex (in his mid twenties?) somehow figures out/recieves the news that, no, his younger brother didn't die in the crash like he'd been told, and then sets out to find him. The catch is, Scott's been adopted and adores his 'dad', who is incidentally the adorkable Hank McCoy.

Soap drama plots, ahoy!

i love, love the backstory you have here: how charles befriended hank, how sean is (secretly) erik's favorite, how raven and hank call sean the redheaded stepchild, how raven and hank are amazing BFFs.

i can't wait for more alex/hank interactions! also, will brian be making a reappearance?

A/N: Re: Hank's profession, whoops! I think I left out a paragraph or so that would've explained it but Hank's a professor at the local Uni and the only reason he managed to get into the ER was because he was wearing a lab coat. Sorry about the confusion!

Also, this part was written whilst I had the flu and was woozy from cold meds. It's extremely fluffy and indulgent but I hope you all like it anyway.Their morning routine usually goes something like this: Hank's alarm starts blaring whatever Arctic Monkeys song is on rotation in his playlist (because nothing is a better motivator for getting up at six AM than having the pleasure of viciously silencing Alex Turner's grating Yorkshire syllabication), he stumbles half-blind into the shower, gets dressed in his uniform of a button-down, tie, slacks and blazer (with a sweater or cardigan thrown into the mix depending on the season), walks blindly into the kitchen and downs three shots of espresso in quick succession ( ... )

He waves at Scott as he pulls out into traffic and almost misses the man leaning against a motorbike parked under a tree across the school. The man's wearing sunglasses and smoking, which Hank spares a frown at. Smoking in such close proximity to children, some parents just have no shame ( ... )

...when Scott bangs out of his room with a flourish, dressed in the Captain America tee he slept in, cords, an orange down vest, a newsboy cap and the work boots from Prada Kids that Charles bought for no apparent reason other than they were adorable.

"I'm ready! Let's go, dad!" Scott grabs his backpack out of Hank's hand, pulls out his little wayfarers (also from Charles), puts them on and runs for the front door while Hank takes a moment to himself to think, Against all odds, I've managed to raise a hipster.

OMG, LITTLE SCOTT IS SO CUTE! And overindulgent Charles owns my heart.

...freshmen loitering just outside his door, making eyes at Charles...

Chaaaarles! It's so great to finally see you in this fic!

I can't even explain how much I'm loving this. You have such a great, witty writing style. And I usually can't stand kids in fics but Scott is adorably hilarious!

This is definitely the best Hank/Alex I've read so far. Even though they've barely interacted? So maybe it'll be the best gen I've read? Whatever, it's awesome, so I'm still gonna rec it even if you never finish.
