Azazel does not like to share (fluff or pr0n, but please no dark).
Bonus points if they're all living in the mansion and Azazel gets edgy every time Hank (the one person to beat him in a fight) gets near *his* Riptide.

Oh! So much beautiful angst. I didn't find the rest of this until today - - it was a lovely treat on my day off. I can't tell you how much I adore your Azazel and Riptide.

Fantastic! So many fics concentrate on Janos's looks, and how Azazel feels like a monster next to him, or how everyone finds him attractive, etc-I was wondering how Janos himself feels about that, whether he feels he has any value beyond his looks, that kind of thing. And then I found this. :D
I find it all too likely that Azazel would immediately pull away, rather than try to communicate, or compete. I love how open Janos was about his feelings, both his love and anger. I love the tenderness Azazel displays, after he finds out, and how he kisses one of the scars-nothing like touch to reassure someone that yes, you're still beautiful, wanted, and loved.
This is a good example of what I meant in the discussion post about the assumptions people can make, looking at the visibly/invisibly marked mutants-that being able to pass means one must have had an easier life, and forgetting that there are other reasons beyond mutations for having pain and difficulties.
That was the whole point of this one, actually. It was something else entirely in the beginning, than I started really thinking about how someone who thinks they're only appreciated for their face would react to a disfigurement. I cannot imagine it being a good reaction, especially if they think they will lose the person they love over it.
As for Azazel pulling away, well, I cheated. I asked my SO what he would do if he thought I was in love with someone else. This was his serious answer, after he had been reassured it was not an actual question.
I am glad that you liked the scene. I was kind of on the fence about it, whether it was too much, or just enough. But I needed him to show Janos that he loved him no matter what he looked like, and Azazel was just so frustratingly caught in his own assumptions.
I like making it so Janos and Azazel both have hard lives, albeit different. Happy people are boring. I want them psychologically damaged.

It's a good point-Janos fell in love with Azazel as he was, scars, extremely mutated looks, violence and all. Azazel fell in love with beautiful Janos, who was then disfigured (as he saw himself).
There's not many fics where there's fallout from anyone's physical injuries during the beach battle, except Charles, or at least I've not scene them. There should be-Angel's wing got set on fire, Riptide got smushed repeatedly, various people fell from heights, and Alex got throttled a couple of times. Traumas ahoy!
