Isn't that just PTSD, though? I mean, not to discredit the study or anything... but it makes perfect sense for someone who went through something really traumatic to have post-traumatic stress disorder....

It's just PTSD, but much of the PTSD research focuses on things like abuse and vets; and also there is little usable info for clinicians on weather impacts. I've found that even therapists assume that if you made it through and got your basic needs met, you should be all right. What I'd like to see these studies delve into is the things ABOUT the hurricanes that contribute to the PTSD. It doesn't take a cat 5 storm to do it, although a cat 5 storm will do it. I have PTSD that is aggravated severely from my experience living in St. Petersburg, FL, during the 2004 season and trying to cope with the storms as a person with disabilities. If I had not had disabilities, I might not have been affected so emotionally... If there had not been so many one after the other... If lots of things... But the factors in my life working together to produce fear of injury and death and the inability to escape or control the situation were what caused the PTSD. But even therapists can sometimes be blind to these things and get into the pattern of ( ... )

From what I have heard, no, it is not JUST PTSD, though PTSD is a big part of what they are talking about. But there is - or can be - a lot more to it than that.
