Well, as we already talked about, we got a generator, and have one 15 gallon gas tank and four 5-gallon tanks ready to go. We have hurricane shutters now for all of the windows. This past weekend we got a gas grill.
I am hoping that the generator will allow me the chance to go online in the event of a power failure.

We have been lucky these past couple of years and did not lose power for a very long time. We are on the same grid as a major hospital, and so we are usually back up and running pretty quickly.

The landlocked states have their share of problems.

I am in graduate school at FAU (Boca and Davie campus) and I kow all about missing school.

I like the phrase expect the best but prepare for the worst.

Here in SOFLO, even with all of the hurricanes in the past year, we did not experience anything like the folks up in the Gulf Coast states of Lousiana, Mississippi and Alabama (and the panhandle of Florida) so we should count our blessings.

I'm here in PBC also & DEFINITELY not going to live in denial after the wild rides we've gone through lately. We went through Frances with very little prep, Jeanne was pretty easy but Wilma left us without power for just over a month. Not cool. & Katrina was just a little puddle maker when she "came across" the area.

Generator (recently upgrades)
gas tanks
automatic hurricane shutters (the press the button & watch 'em come down kind YAY!)
a new cement block cat 5 proof barn for the horses
& we've already done flash light & battery crazy just in case all else fails.

OH! & we switched cell phone providers to Verizon since they were the ONLY ones working during & after Wilma. Even my back up Nextel screwed up.

My store front (in Abacoa) is being fitted & supplied with automatic shutters & a generator. We definitely need it. Just took the business over & after last year with the critters in the shop going without power for awhile, it's time to make sure the AC or at least some big fans can run.
