I had a lot of things to change--multiple credit cards, bank account, insurances, social security, driver's license, passport...(I might even be forgetting a few things.) Because of that, I paid the money to MissNowMrs.com, which is the online version of a name change kit. It took me about an hour to fill everything out and print it, but it was definitely helpful in the end. Plus, it kept a check list for me so I didn't miss anything.

Gee, I'd never heard of that before I got married ...

IMHO it can't save you that much time, and yes, changing your name is a hassle. There were so many places that required me to physically come in with a new ID to change my billing statements. It's kinda ridiculous that my credit card would do it over the Internet but at&t needed my marriage license, in person. Gimme a break. I think you'll find that all your different accounts will have different requirements and you're still going to have to hunt down what all of them are.

i did NOT buy a kit.

The social security office has all the info you need online and you can print everything off from the website.
after that you just take that info and your marriage license to the DMV.
I actually was able to change my bank account (just my name on it not the account) with just the marriage certificate.
i dont have any credit cards so i guess that helps.

i really dont know how they work, but if you wanted to do it go for it

Seems like it's probably not worth the money, and $30 seems like a lot for forms I can print off. I was more concerned with missing things, but I don't have any credit cards and I'll be closing my bank account (they don't have the one I use where I'll be moving) so that's not an issue.
Thanks! :)

ohmy, i wouldn't waste the dollars.

all you have to do is go to social security office, took me 2 minutes, and the dmv and get a new id...and it didn't have to be one or the other first.

and then it's just wahtever else you feel like changing...if you want to change your name with your gas/electric company, call them. if you want to change it with your cell company, call them.

it's so unbelievably easy, it's not even funny.

oh yes and the bank. just bring in your new id or ss card or even just a marriage certificate - i did that and they were fine changing it.
