Title: Plenty Rating: PG Pairing: None. Spoilers: None. Pre-Series. Word Count: 785 Feedback: Yes, please! AN: Very strange things happen in my brain sometimes. This may be one of them. But not as strange as others.
Well, I remember in "The Train Job" there was some mention of indentured servitude, and I've always wanted to work that in somewhere. It makes sense that--given the costs with terraforming--that people wouldn't have enough money without selling themselves for x period of time. That's how a lot of people got to America or Australia during colonization.
Wow. Hopping off my tangent. *g* Thanks! It's my first Jayne fic. I was putting it off for a long time, and then the bunny humped my leg for all he was worth this afternoon. LOL.
I've only ever written Jayne. Well, there's only two fics, so that's not saying much. And I didn't envision him as being my favorite or envision me writing his voice. But then...
I find him as interesting/intriguing as Mal, if in a whole different way. It's real easy to dismiss Jayne as "the dumb one", but after obsessive watching, I realized Jayne isn't really dumb. He's not smart, but he's not dumb. And that makes him interesting, because he is so easy to overlook. And he knows it.
I'm sleepy and thus lack proper words but this is FABULOUS, Pt! Love the glimpse of Jayne's childhood - it feels very...canonical. Love Jayne's Ma being a school-teacher.
Fabulous is always the right word, dahling! *g* I don't know...I seem to be on this "what was their childhood like?" thang, don't you think? Still, as long as it works and nobody's complaining.... *g*

Jayne's childhood! He's appreciative, he's tough, and he's smart. He's also lost a lot.
His brother selling himself makes a lot of sense in my little Jayne worldview.
Great job.

He kind of pops as a character.
