I have been self harming since about 20 or 21. I was a late bloomer. I am now 35. I was mostly stopped for quite awhile, of course I was drinking then too. I was still self-harming when I was 35 too. Sometimes I have years without urges... and right now it's been a long time so I'm hopeful.

I was in psychology class and the teacher said many older people self-harm but it's not well known, so we're not alone.

I do think there's hope even if the urges never completely leave.

Sometimes my biggest fear with SI and my mental health in general is that I'll be "crazy" forever. But in reality most people stop cutting. If you try to quit, I'm sure you'll quit, it may just take time.

Stay strong,
Jack

Welcome to the comm. I was a "late bloomer" with SI as well, starting when I was 20. This is a really good place to talk, I've been here for... three years? Yah. I don't always comment but I do read everything so if you ever need to feel that somebody's listening, I'm here.
Take care.
