Summary: Suho is the new Alpha of a depleted and damaged pack.
Prologue
Chapter 1:
Kris sighed as he looked at the documents in front of him. Being the Alpha of the most powerful and influential pack in the city meant mountains of paperwork and miles of red tape to navigate as he reined in the more volatile wolves, preventing them from revealing the existence of the supernatural world to them, at least the wolf part of it.
He wished he could offload his responsibilities more on his Second but Luhan was unreliable at times and had ripped apart one too many humans for him to be able to handle the most sensitive of operations. His wolf growled as it remembered the disrespect their cousin had showed them by not turned up as he had been ordered to that evening.
Luhan had been a loose cannon since they had been children but Luhan had been marked from his birth as Kris’s Second. No other wolf but Luhan’s was on par with Kris’s. Together the two of them had created this empire and build their pack into the stronghold that it now was. He knew what was wrong with Luhan but he didn’t know how to fix it. Luhan hadn’t mated yet. After 400 years of existence Luhan was starting to strain. His wolf hadn’t liked any of the omegas or even betas that had been presented to it. Wolves needed mates, especially alphas, a mate calmed the beast that lay beneath the human skin. A mate provided stability, and hopefully pups, if you were lucky enough to mate with an omega.
The centuries had caused Luhan to fray and it had started to accelerate in the last decades. Kris was loathe to put restrictions on his Second as that would look bad to the rest of the pack, yet the way that Luhan had been behaving was not much better. It had been happening in bursts but this recent burst had been the worst and been going on longer than normal. He had been absent for long periods, snapping at everyone and avoiding his duties to care for the pack.
He looked up as he had the soft pad of feet coming down the corridor towards his office. He was flooded with the calming scent of his mate as the door open. Yixing blinked at him blankly, “It’s late.”
“I know. Luhan was supposed to visit me this evening. He’s blocked himself from the pack bond and I can’t reach him.” Kris let his concern fill his voice. It front of everyone else he was an ice fortress but those walls came tumbling down when his omega was in front of him.
“He defied an order. You’re worried.” Yixing stated what he saw. There was no need for questions.
“He needs to find his mate soon.” Kris raised his arms to allow the smaller male to slip onto his lap. “Otherwise I might have to do something.”
“You have been saying that for a while.”
“He’s my Second, I can’t just punish him. It would ruin his standing in the pack and with the other packs. It would have repercussions. The other packs would pounce on any weakness in our ranks. Luhan is one of our biggest threats to other packs, and if anyone respects him any less he would be furious.”
“I know. You have also said this before.” Yixing nuzzled into his alpha’s neck, breathing in the powerful scent.
Kris smiled grimly. “That is because I can’t see a solution.”
“You will think of something. You always do. That’s why you are who you are.” Yixing whispered before yawning.
“Are you tired my sweet? Shall I tuck you up in bed?” Kris chuckled at the cuteness.
“You know I am and yes please.” The smaller man mumbled. Kris chuckled again as he picked up his mate and carried him away to bed, leaving the problem of his troublesome Second behind.

“I know I’m a problem.”
“What?” Suho jumped as he looked up at the tiny man in front of him.
“I know you are worried about what to do with me,” Baekhyun whispered to his Alpha. He looked just as distraught as Suho felt, though he didn’t show it. “I am a liability. I know it, you know it, everyone knows it.”
Suho was silent as he tried to think of a response. “I can’t disagree.”
“I could leave or go to a larger pack,” Baekhyun offered.
“No way!” Kai came up behind them. “You know what another pack would do! We are not throwing you out.”
“We wouldn’t let you leave Baekhyun. You would be jumped on by the first alpha that found you.” Suho spoke firmly, his eyes flashing.
“But if I stay here we will have some other pack try tear us apart to try and get to me,” Baekhyun cried out, hopelessness filling his voice and his face.
“Whether you stay here or not we are sitting ducks,” Suho admitted. It was the truth and no one could deny it. “We are weak and vulnerable and have no way to defend ourselves against a bigger pack. We can’t even defend our borders at the moment.”
Baekhyun’s eyes were teary as he fell to his knees. Kyungsoo hurried over and wrapped his arms around the more submissive wolf. Everyone knew what position they were in, but hearing it out loud made it more real.
“What are we going to do then?” Baekhyun asked, his eyes angry. Not at Suho but at the world and this situation.
“I’ll think of something. We didn’t survive the battle to get slaughter later on.”

Luhan ran.
His wolf howled as he ran through the forest bordering the city’s western edge, not somewhere he came often but he felt the need to go further than he normally did. His wolf was getting harder and harder to control, the aggression that ruled it leaking out into his everyday interactions. Luhan found that the only way he could calm it was allowing it as much freedom as he dared when they were able to escape the pack and its duties.
As he neared at a clearing he smelled blood thick in the earth. A fight, a large one had occurred their recently. He approached a still smouldering pile of corpses; he guessed that an entire pack must have been disposed of if they weren’t shown the respect of a proper burial. Only when an entire pack was obliterated and there was no one left to bury the dead did the victorious pack do this. He sniffed around and recognised the smell of the pack that had been causing trouble at the edge of the city with an Alpha getting too big and trying to act tough. Looked like he hadn’t survived long and neither had his pack. He wondered which pack had taken them out and what the losing pack had done to annoy them to this extent that not one member of their pack was left.
Luhan chuckled deeply and felt no sympathy. He had met the new Alpha having been sent to give a friendly warning about not letting them get exposed and hadn’t been impressed with his disrespectful and callus attitude. His wolves were no better and he just wished he had been there to see him being ripped to shreds.
As he made to leave the clearing he smelled something, something appealing. His wolf practically purred as he started to follow the thread. Luhan wondered if this was it, a mate that would finally satisfy his fussy wolf. His wolf snapped at in irritation, he wasn’t fussy, just waiting for the perfect one.
It was an omega, a fairly young one, one that hadn’t mated before. He took a deep breath, filling his lungs with the pleasure aroma that caused tingles to cover his body.
He followed the aroma to the border of a territory. He didn’t dare enter for fear of being attacked, not that he feared he wouldn’t be able eliminate a pack, he had done multiple times before. But he didn’t want to scare this omega that his wolf was so infatuated with. The omega would be his but he didn’t want anything to get between him and his mate, that including accidently killing one of his current pack.
Luhan silenced his wolf as he headed back towards his own pack. He would be back and when he was he would be taking his omega with him.

Minseok half awoke as Tao slipped into their bed, automatically pulling the younger wolf into a loose embrace.
“Anything interesting happen today?” He mumbled to others warm neck.
“Nope. I swear nothing ever happens when I’m on guard duty. I don’t know whether I should be happy or not. It’s been so boring lately.” Tao grumbled as he had been doing recently.
“Well, you could always go out and start a fight with another pack but then I’d have to punish you,” Minseok chuckled deeply, this voice still thick with sleep. “As the packs Third I am supposed to be able to control my own mate.”
“I know.” Tao huffed as he moved into a more comfortable position to sleep in. “I just wish that something would happen.”
“You shouldn’t say stuff like that, you’ll jinx the peace.” The elder yawned as he let sleep once more take over his brain.
“Love you, Seokkie-hyung,” Tao kissed the others forehead as he followed him to sleep.

A/N:
I am writing this slowly. As in the chapters aren't going to be huge but they will be regular (that sounds strange to me...), reason being that while I will update this regularly, my priority is Bu Bu Jing Xin (which you should check out if you like Super Junior/TVXQ/various other SM idols including random EXO members). This is more of a side project.
Anyway, hope you like this little update. It is an introduction to more characters. Thats pretty much all it is. Also Luhan catching Baekhyun's scent. That as well. Cos that is important.
