<< Chapter 2
Minseok awoke with a start as he felt that he was needed through this pack bond, except this wasn’t the general bond but the special one he shared with Kris and Luhan as the pack’s Third. Pushing his clingy mate off, he pulled on trousers and a loose top as he watched Tao mumble and press his face into his pillow, before heading towards the Alpha’s floor.
He decided to take the stairs instead of the lift because the last thing he needed was to lose control of his wolf in a confined place, especially with the strong emotions that were currently flooding him. Kris must be really struggling if he had to get his Third to block what was happening from the rest of the pack rather than dealing with it himself.
Growls and crashes greeted him as he reached his destination. It looked like a bomb had exploded with furniture smashed everywhere and walls crumbling were huge amounts of force had hit it. Part of reason he worked so well with Kris and Luhan was that they often needed a mediator for even the most casual conversations before they erupting into a spat, Yixing fulfilled this role most of the time, but when it down to it Yixing was an omega and no match for two hugely dominant alphas.
When Minseok entered the room both Luhan and Kris were in their human forms and sitting at opposite ends of the room. “Is it over?”
Both growled lightly and he smirked at the expected response. Of course it wasn’t over. This, whatever it was, was big it seemed.
“So,” Minseok decided to start, “What is happening?”
“Kris is denying me my rights,” Luhan spat out.
“Luhan is being a fool,” Kris replied just as harshly, his eyes flashing dangerously.
“Would anyone want to elaborate further?” Minseok knew he was pushing it, but he also knew that the only way to get information out of these two was the pull it.
“I found my mate.”
Minseok’s eyes widened as he realised the significance.
“He’s not ours to just take Luhan,” Kris spoke more calmly now.
“Why not? I’ve waited long enough!”
“His pack is guarded. That pack is Kangta’s. He may be dead but the treaty still stands.” Kris sighed as he tried to reason with the other wolf.
“He’s mine,” Luhan whined pitifully as he seemed to realise that Kris wouldn’t budge.
“I’m sorry.”
Minseok watched as Luhan approached the more dominant wolf, now looking small and defeated even though both were covered with blood.
The Second fell on the Alpha and the two cousins wrapped themselves around each other in comfort. “We’ll think of something,” Kris said as he looked at Minseok, nodding for him to leave.
Minseok walked more slowly back to his room as he thought over what he had just witnessed, feeling as Kris took control of the pack seamlessly from him. None of the lower wolves would have even noticed that anything was wrong.

Kris had an excellent memory, and he kept records of every deal, treaty and agreement that took place within his area of control since he became Alpha. Back then it had been a smaller and weaker territory with a pack a fifth of the size that his current one was. He couldn’t influence the machinations of the other packs and the politics that ruled them.
Now though, he liked to think he could accomplish anything he set his mind to.
He looked out at the city he had gradually taken control of over the past couple of hundred years. He even managed the other entities in the city that the human population didn’t know about. He knew everything and everyone knew it. Not one decision was made without it having crossed his desk at some point in its life.
But here was the problem. He was also known far and wide as a man of his word. He was good with his words and never said something he didn’t mean. Words could be twisted, this he knew, and he had learnt the art form from a young age. This is why he was stuck as to how to approach the pack that apparently housed Luhan’s chosen mate.
Luhan was a rare case. His wolf had decided it wanted one particular match. Most wolves would happily choose from a variety of potential mates. The human side had just as much of a choice as the wolf side, but in Luhan’s case, he only had one potential match.
Kris had chosen his mate, with little difficulty, after a long hundred years fighting to make a name for himself and his pack. He had made an alliance with another pack whose Alpha was dying. He would mate one of the Alpha’s omega children and then accept all the pack members into his pack with no trouble. It gave him some incredible fighters, including Minseok, who had been the Second of a smaller but still powerful pack. It was no match for him though. He could’ve destroyed it, but it would’ve been hard. They had controlled the entire East section of the city, but Kris had already taken the rest of it.
Being wary of all the blood spilled and fed up with fighting he had arranged talks. Kris had liked Yixing immediately and the attraction was reciprocated. Both were happy, the packs were happy and the whole city and surrounding countryside were affectively ruled by one pack.
Smaller packs existed of course, but only because Kris let them. He had control of the business hub and the wealthiest areas and all the smaller packs reported to him in some way. It was less hassle than spreading his own pack over the entire city.
The only concern was a small pack that avoided the rest of them. It was secretive and rumours spread about some sort of protection they had. Kris had been curious and investigated, he didn’t get very far before his spy came back with a message. Kangta, the Alpha, politely asked that he come directly to him if he wanted information rather than send ineffective spies. Kris had never been so intrigued.
Looking at the dossier in front of him reporting the current state of the once proud and independent pack he came up with a plan.

Suho could hear Kai approaching him as soon as the younger entered the building. No matter how quiet the Second was he was no match for the superior hearing of his Alpha. It used to be a game they played when Kai was still a pup and just turned. Now though it wasn’t a game, more habit.
Suho hummed in acknowledgement of Kai’s presence when he finally reached the room.
“I chose someone. Young student. No family. Few friends. He can continue his degree once he can control his wolf.”
“That’s good. I choose a female. I think she would be a good addition. Recently finished her medical degree. Foreign so no family near that will worry if she didn’t come home for a few months. We could always fake her death if she wishes.” Suho's previous Alpha had always told him to make sure that the pack had intelligent members and that they had skills that the group as a whole could use. A doctor was useful, werewolves could hardly go to any hospital for treatment.
It seemed harsh when Suho thought of it more clearly, turning someone without their knowledge or consent. But how else could they fill their ranks? They couldn’t reveal what they were until someone was already part of their world.
They researched their targets thoroughly before they acted. The smell and actions of a human spoke volumes to wolves. Body language was something that could be read easily by them. They could smell loneliness and fear, shame and sadness, every emotion and they interpreted it. They checked on family and friends, they watched their target for days and when they consulted their inner wolf. Only after every step was taken did they act. Nine times out of ten the new wolf was happy after the initial shock. Being part of a pack was wonderful and opened a part of yourself that regular humans couldn’t reach.
Having a wolf, after you gained control of it, that was something that no one would willingly part with. The wolf was a part of them and to take it away after you have gained it would be impossible to consider.
Suho looked at the photos of the two new recruits before slipping them in his pocket. Tonight he would show them to the pack and ask their opinion.

Baekhyun looked out at the street, watching the humans scurry up and down like ants in a colony. He laughed lightly to himself as he realised that was exactly what they were. This was a giant colony of a city and those were the little ants that followed the flow. Even the supposed rebels who distanced themselves from the mainstream could only separate themselves so far. Humans thought they understood the world, they thought they had worked everything out already, but in reality they were all blind.
He closed his eyes and pressed his forehead to the glass as he contemplated his future. As he struggled for a picture he felt himself close to tears.
Why hadn’t he chosen a mate when he had a chance? His father had promised him that he wouldn’t be forced. That he would never be backed into a corner. But look at him now.
Even is Suho turned new wolves as fast as he dared for fear of losing control of them… they were screwed if he stayed. No half intelligent pack anywhere would give up the chance of an unmated omega, especially with his pack in the weakened state it was in.
He sighed as he heard Suho enter the room. “Come and join the rest of us. I have news of the potentials.”
Turning and facing the Alpha’s knowing gaze he smiled lightly to show his approval of this obvious distraction and followed the other out.

AN:
Woah. So much interest.
The pressure *wipes brow* I mean this was supposed to be dipping my toe in the EXO fanfic pool, not a big thing. Glad you guys seem to like the first couple of updates.
What I meant in the last AN is that I will update this fic roughly once a week but the chapter will be bout this length. No long chapters here. Nobody got time for that.
Warning though. I am not betaing or even rereading this stuff cos otherwise I would never post anything. I over analyse my writings and then just delete it all most of the time. Hence my new method of writing without thinking too much.
Ask me if something doesn't make sense and yell at me (in a nice way please) if I am messing something up by contradicting myself.
Hugs and kisses to you all <3
