Chapter 3

Suho was planning to bite his new charge that evening when he received a message, setting his plans back. It was on his private phone which only his pack members knew the number of, or so he thought. He felt a deep sense of dread when he saw the message signed Kris.

There was only one person with that name that he knew of and he couldn’t imagine anyone else using that name after it was used be someone so powerful.

He swallowed the worry that was starting to rise in his throat and messaged Kai to tell him that he wouldn’t be able to be contacted for the next few hours and that he would like to call a pack meeting for that evening. He could in theory tell everyone through the pack bonds but that was only a last resort. If the pack bonds were touched it would be a major distraction to all the members. That could have worrying consequences if the member was in a precarious situation.

Kai replied back immediately asking of he needed help with anything. After shooting off a quick text to the negative Suho set off to a part of the city he rarely ventured.

**

Suho approached the building he hadn’t entered in years cautiously. He knew he was expected but that didn’t stop him from being wary of the wolves who came to greet him. A tall and wiry youth told him that he would be taken straight to Kris. The pair of beefy betas that followed him were purely for show, even though Suho was physically smaller he was an Alpha and not so easily over powered. He wondered though who the show was for exactly. Him or Kris’s pack members that were eying him as he walked through the long corridors.

The private elevator took them directly to the Alpha’s floor at the top of the building. He décor had changed in the years since Suho had last been there, the design now all sleek lines and cool colours. The office was empty when he let himself in, the goons staying outside as he moved to the window and looked at  the view he used to look at so often. It had changed so much, just like everything else. Skyscrapers had been built and buildings had been replaced. The city had grown, outwards and upwards, developing and adapting. Yet this place had remained at the centre, a beautiful relic of years gone past. The door opened and Suho knew who it was before a sound was made.

“Joonmyun.”

“I don’t go by that name anymore, Yixing.”

“Ah, sorry. Suho.”

“You knew I would be here?”

“Kris told me. I didn’t object.”

“That’s strange considering what happened the last time I was here.”

“I shouldn’t have acted like that. I’m sorry.”

“It’s understandable. I was in the way.” Suho sighed as he remembered the past. It was painful and he ignored the wound that never quite healed that remained deep inside of him. He glanced back at the other man who was searching for something to say before he turned again to the window.

He felt a crackle in the air before he smelt the scent of the Alpha he was here to see. Kris growled lowly upon opening the door and seeing his mate with his visitor. He hadn’t told Yixing that Joonmyun would be here for him to see him. It was more of a courtesy warning.
Suho didn’t move until he had felt the omega leave.

“It’s been a long time, Yifan.”

Kris let the emotions he had kept bottled up out only when he knew the floor was empty. Yixing would have made himself scarce, no doubt hiding with Jongdae, knowing that Kris wouldn’t be receptive of him that evening, probably not tomorrow either. Everyone else ordered to leave.

Seeing that person had reminding of things he tried to keep buried and forget - no not forget. He didn’t want to forget those times, but they were so bittersweet. Pain mixed with happiness.

He breathed deeply as the Joonmyun’s scent lingered in the room, the aroma once again wrapping around him and making him addcited. He wondered how long it would last and how long he could convince himself that he didn’t need the man to come again to refresh it.

Suho let himself into the pack house knowing that everyone was inside. Kai would have gathered everyone effectively. Kyungsoo and Sehun both worked so they were the most bothersome to get hold of normally. Not all wolves saw the point of working, they could procure most things they wanted through other means.  But after so many years of existence it was boring if you didn’t try working once in a while.

Walking into the main room he was greeted with the sight of his betas and omega sprawled in a giant pile on the couch. Kai was perched on the arm looking at the other members in bemusement. The dying laughter indicated that something amusing must have happened. Silence consumed the room as they all looked at him in expectation.

His grim mood must have shown as tension filled the air and everyone separated to sit in a more organised manner.

“I have some news.” Suho started talking, his voice controlled, “Kris messaged me today and I went to see him.”

“Wha-”

“How-”

“Kris?!”

“Why?” Seemed to be the most popular response.

“He told me that the Kwon pack was planning to attack us and that it would lead to our assured destruction.”

Everyone stilled and no one moved a muscle.

“He offered us a deal.” He glanced at Baekhyun and the implication was understood.

“NO!”

“You can’t.”

“There must be another way!”

“I won’t allow you to!”

“Silence.” Suho whispered but everyone shut up straight away. Only Baekyun hadn’t made a sound, staring straight back at his Alpha, his face pale and reconciled.

Baekhyun cleared his throat before asking, “What was the deal?”

“Protection from any threat, help building up our pack, a partnership.” He stopped, pausing to swallow down the bile that threatened to come up, “In exchange for you.”

“Why? They have a range of omegas.” Baekhyun looked confused but no less angry. He had been expecting something like this it seemed. Suho knew the depression and resignation that plagued Baekhyun since the battle. Suho had spent as much time as he could talking to and shielding the younger but he couldn’t hide the truth from the omega. The situation was dire.

“I couldn’t get a firm answer. I doubt Kris would force you to do anything, he is a man of his word and he made a deal with your father a long time ago.”

“What sort of deal?”

“That Kris would never attack this pack, but he never said he would defend it from attacks of others. Kris has always found a way around things. He obviously wants you otherwise he would never even consider stopping an attack.” Suho spoke slowly, thinking through everything before he voiced it. “He also made a deal that if he ever came into possession of one of Kangta’s children he would never force them to do anything.” He didn’t reveal the other parts of the agreement that had been signed so long ago, not long after Suho had joined them, or the reasons as to why it existed. None of the current pack apart from him had been alive then. It made Suho feel quite old for a moment.

“So he wants Baekhyun to join his pack, but he won’t force Baekhyun to do anything. Surely he is forcing him to join his pack.” Chanyeol pointed out.

“He isn’t technically forcing Baekhyun though,” Kyungsoo said. “Baekhyun could not join, and then be taken by the Kwon pack and we would all be killed.”

Kai snorted. “That’s being forced in my book.”

“I’ll do it.”

“No you won’t!” Kai fired back at Baekhyun. The others were quiet as Kai bristled with anger and Suho looked withdrawn.

“We have no other option.” Baekhyun whispered, he radiated weakness and looked as if he was on the brink of collapse. Kai calmed instantly as his anger turned to concern. “If I don’t join you’ll all be dead and I’ll be taken by the Kwon’s. If I join, at least I know I won’t be forced to mate. If Kris truly is a man of his word he’ll honour the agreement, right?” The omega asked his Alpha.

“He is. He will look after you. You will be safe there and that is our main worry.” Suho told the younger, though he looked pained at having to admit it.

AN:

I have moved into a new house and we won’t get the internet set up until the 27th December. So I will have very little access to the internet. I will try and get on every couple of days but I am unsure as of yet how it will affect my updates. It probably won’t much since I only update once a week anyway… (which btw I managed to keep that promise lol)

Still in shock over how many people are reading this thing. This is so clichéd and I try not to overthink it too much.

Once again let me know if you don’t understand something or if I have made a glaring mistake. I don’t bother proofreading this cos otherwise I end up facepalming and hating it all.

Love to you all <3
