Chapter 4
Suho felt rather than heard Baekhyun enter his study, previous Baekhyun’s fathers. Suho hadn’t changed it and he wondered how Baekhyun felt looking at all of his father’s possessions still littered around the room.
“You should take something,” Suho spoke softly but still caused the younger wolf to jump in surprise.
“Pardon?”
“You should take something of his.”
Baekhyun smiled softly before picking up a small puzzle ball that Kangta used to fiddle with when he was bored. It was hundreds of years old ivory, designed for royalty, now worn but still exquisite.
“Thank you,” Baekhyun mumbled still discernable for the alpha.
“It should be yours anyway.” Suho looked at the pale exhausted face, “Remember Baekhyun that this was your father’s pack and so it will always remain your home. Let me know if they aren’t treating you well. I will talk to Kris.” The last few words were filled with wariness, his sadness seeping through even though he tried to control it.
“My father told me…” Suho looked at the younger with curious eyes. “My father mentioned once… that you used to be a member of Kris’s pack…” The younger seemed to know it was a sensitive subject but Suho knew the younger just wanted reassuring.
“Kris may seem fierce, but he is generally fair. If he says he won’t push you into anything, he won’t push you.”
Baekhyun’s posture was still tensed as he gazed at the floor. Suho slowly walked towards him, giving the younger a chance to reject him before he pulled him into an embrace. Baekhyun instantly relaxed into Suho’s arms, feeling safe and secure with his alpha.
“Can… can I visit?”
Suho controlled himself from reacting to the broken voice. He didn’t want to show his uncertainty, he needed to be strong for Baekhyun and for everyone else in his pack.
“I will visit. I will visit as often as you want me too.” Suho’s promise was fierce as he was determined, even if Baekhyun belonged to another pack, that he would always protect the younger. He had always viewed the younger as a precocious little brother and his view wouldn’t change even if he was leaving them.
After a few minutes Baekhyun eased himself out of his leader’s hold, giving him a thankful smile.
Suho watched as he started to leaving before reminding him, “We leave at 10 tomorrow so be sure to have everything you want to take with you packed tonight.”
A nod was all he got in reply as the omega exited the room.

Luhan was bouncing with nerves. Kris told him earlier that the omega he knew instantly was his mate was called Baekhyun.
He hadn’t been able to stop himself chanting the name since he had heard it. It sounded beautiful as he was sure the younger wolf was.
Luhan had only been able to stop his chanting when he heard the name of the other pack’s Alpha. He recognised it instantly and knew that Kris must be filled with inner turmoil though he would never allow anyone to see it. He simply let sympathy fill their pack bond to let the other know that he was there for him if he needed it. Normally Luhan would let Yixing know if Kris was in a mood. The Alpha’s mate was a cure all in most situations, able to get Kris out of the most melancholy or foul moods, however he doubted that either of them would want to be near each other at the moment. Joonmyun was the one dark mark on their otherwise perfect relationship.
Leaving his cousin to brood in peace, he doubted the other wanted to be with him when he was so happy after being told that the other pack had been given a deal and that he might be seeing his mate sooner rather than later, Luhan practically skipped down the corridors to his floor. He only restrained himself when he saw one of the many lower wolves that made up their large pack.
Sometimes Luhan missed the smallness of their original pack. Now they had so many members that he didn’t know half of them apart from their names. The closeness of a smaller pack was somewhat lacking though they made up for that by having a few close members at the centre.
As he entered his floor, one down from Kris and Yixing’s, he looked around and wondered whether Baekhyun would want to change anything. Obviously the younger would want to settle in and make the place his own. Yixing changed Kris’s personal quarters every time he was pregnant or bored. One time Luhan remember he painted the walls bright neon colours - Kris had not been impressed at all. Though Yixing had pouted the entire time Kris had watched them being painted back to a more sedate beige.
Luhan decided he needed to get rid of this nervous excitement otherwise he wouldn’t be able to control his wolf when he saw him. Luhan’s wolf disagreed, saying that he would never do anything that would scare their mate. Not wanting to take any chances Luhan got ready for a run.

Yixing curled in a ball in the middle of Jongdae’s bed stared at the wall hard. He didn’t know what he should do. He didn’t know how he should act right now or how he should or when he should go back to his own quarters and Kris.
When Kris had told him that Joonmyun was going to be visiting him on official business as the Alpha of another pack he had felt as if his world had rocked. He hadn’t heard that name in so long, hadn’t felt the guilt that flooded him in years, the anxiousness crawled at him and he hadn’t been able to resist seeing the other man with his own two eyes.
He knew Kris was going to be worse, his mate had fought against himself for years when the first mated. The three of them had been stuck in perpetual tension and then Yixing had broken; he had snapped and Joonmyun left. Kris had been bereft, lost without his precious Joonmyun. Yixing had picked up the pieces, the reason for the alpha's sadness but also the cure. He was an omega, Joonmyun wasn’t and nothing could change that.
Except Yixing knew, deep down, that a part of Kris’s would always be Joonmyun’s Yifan rather than Yixing’s Kris.
He just didn’t know how he should act or what he should do.
No one told him been mated would have these sort of complications. Every omega was told that alpha’s would do anything for them, would covet them, would cherish them and their children. He was never told what to do if his alpha came as a package deal and his competition wasn’t another omega but an alpha. An alpha that Kris would never admit was more than a trusted lieutenant and yet when that lieutenant had left Kris had fallen apart.
No had told him what he should do if the person he loved was in love with someone else.

A/N:
So I have been really busy recently what with Christmas and New Year and a new job and moving house (to a completely different part of the country) and having a new dog who is the most needy animal ever (seriously she can’t be on her own for 2 minutes - she whines when I go to the loo and having a shower she just sits outside the bathroom being pathetic) so I haven’t really been in the mood to write. It took me like 5 days to get down just over 1000 words… that is depressing…
Anyway this would be longer but I didn’t want people to think I had abandoned this story. I am determined to finish this sooner rather than later but then again determination means nothing in the face of real life problems lol
This chapter was basically a set up for the next. It was also supposed to highlight the difference between Luhan and Baekhyun in regards to how they will feel when they meet. Totally different.
Please comment - I like constructive criticism as well ^^ As long as you don’t tell me this is the most awful story ever I think I will survive (you have nothing on university professors/college teachers hahaha)
