Chapter 5
Suho was taking Baekhyun to his new pack this morning. Kai hadn’t been able to sleep the night before as he tried to think of a way for Baekhyun to remain in the pack and not be handed over like a sacrificial lamb. He had no idea what Kris wanted with Baekhyun but he was sure there was a reason. Alphas from packs like Kris’ don’t go out of their way to procure omegas from tiny packs like theirs. There was definitely something that Kris was withholding from them, and he was sure that even if Baekhyun wasn’t openly forced there would be pressure for him to do things.
No matter how he thought he couldn’t come up with a plan where they could all live undisturbed by other packs. Kai knew that Suho wouldn’t have easily chosen this path, Suho loved all of them, and him being the Alpha means that it must’ve hurt his pride a hundred times more than his own to have to give up their omega to another pack.
Kai swallowed as he watched the sky brighten. Baekhyun was going to leave and the responsibility of being Second hit him. He couldn’t get angry or upset, he had to be a rock, a support for the others. He couldn’t show the others how uncertain he was feeling, his world had been rocked just as much as the others in the last month yet he was now in charge of them. Suho might be the Alpha, but he was the Second and he needed to act like one.
His wolf hummed in his mind, reassuring him that this is what they were meant to do and that they would cope fine. They were alpha.

Baekhyun didn’t cry at all, though his red eyes showed that he must’ve done some time during the night.
Chanyeol and Kai were stoic, while Kyungsoo and Sehun let out a few silent tears. No one was going to break over this. They had suffered their packs near extinction, Baekhyun wasn’t dying, he was joining a new pack, where he would be safe, even if his happiness would be in question.
After a round of hugs, Suho placed the one piece of hand luggage into the back of his car before opening the passenger door and herding the omega in. Baekhyun’s mood seemed to plummet as they headed further into Kris’ territory and away from his own, it wasn’t openly visible but Suho could still feel Baekhyun through his pack link. He didn’t want to think about the moment that link would vanish. Suho would feel the loss more strongly than Baekhyun, the alpha in him upset with losing a member, while Baekhyun’s would be replaced immediately with his link to Kris and his new pack.
Suho couldn’t allow his own guilt and hurt about the situation show so he send a wave of reassurance towards Baekhyun.
“Who do you think I’ll be mated with?”
“Why do you ask that?” Suho asked, cautiously responding to the quiet question.
“They must have a mate in mind for me already, or at least a few alphas that need mates. They wouldn’t acquire a new omega unless they planned to use it - me.”
“You’ll have a choice,” Suho said quietly, quelling the uncertainty that had started to pierce him. “You won’t be mated to someone you won’t be happy with. I would personally take you back if I thought that was the case.”
Both were silent, the heaviness of it weighing on both of them. If Baekhyun was forced, you can’t separate a mated pair, both would go crazy. If Baekhyun didn’t like his choices, how exactly would Suho get him out? And Kris wouldn’t let him go that easily. Letting an omega leave his pack because he wouldn’t submit would be a show of weakness. Even if Baekhyun ran away, he would be claimed by the first alpha that could get to him, his sweet smell drawing them in like bees to honey. And if he ran, his pack, his father’s pack, they would no doubt be killed or scattered.
There were too many ways this could all go wrong yet there was no way out. Baekhyun just hoped that whoever became his mate would be someone he could one day love.

Kris greeted Joonmyun and Baekhyun in his personal quarters rather than the public areas he normally used for business. This was already personal even if he had never meet the younger before.
Joonmyun looked more withdrawn and tired, dark blue eyebags looked like bruises pressed into his white skin. He wasn’t meeting his eyes, looking at the floor and Baekhyun. Kris’s heart ached as he realised that taking Baekhyun from Joonmyun’s pack would hurt him just as much as it would help his pack. He realised that the room was painfully silent so he teared his eyes away from the other alpha to look at the omega.
Baekhyun was slender, with dark purple hair, pale skin and pretty eyes. He looked so small, uncertainty and sadness clinging to him. Kris hoped that this boy would be the one that Luhan needed, Luhan seemed certain of it, so he would just have to leave to them to it. Wolves disliked interference during the mating process so he would leave Luhan alone for a couple of weeks and order that one set even a toe onto his floor. He’d hate for Luhan to accidentally kill someone who he believed a threat - newly mated wolves were more trouble than newly made ones in his opinion.
“We’ll do the ceremony now and then I’ll have you taken to your new quarters.”
A nod was the only response from both the men in front of him. He sighed as he realised he wouldn’t get much conversation from either of them.
“Suho… you’ll have to release Baekhyun now.” He spoke softly, knowing that this would disorientate them both. He’d done this before, to other wolves that he had taken from packs but this time his heart went out to the younger Alpha. Joonmyun was different, he didn’t deserve any pain.
Joonmyun’s expression tighten and he closed his eyes as he snapped the bond he held with Baekhyun that connected them.

The tie Baekhyun had to the whole pack was gone and the younger gasped at the emptiness he felt, overwhelmed as for the first time he couldn’t feel the gentle buzzing of the pack mind at the back of his thoughts. He no longer could reach out to Suho silently. He cried as he felt warm arms wrap around him in comfort. Suho was still there even though he could no longer feel him empathically.
“Let him go for a moment,” Kris quietly murmured in Suho’s ear yet audible to them all, with their sharp hearing.
Baekhyun felt himself being released as a piece of warm flesh was pressed to his lips. He gagged as he forced the meat down his gullet, not letting it rest in his mouth for a second to prevent tasting it and tried not to think about where it came from. As a born wolf who had never changed packs he had never been forced to eat a chunk of his Alpha’s flesh. He choked as he felt the sudden expansion. Suddenly he could feel Kris and others, so many others. It was all too much, too quickly.

Yifan caught the youngest as Baekhyun blacked out, placing him carefully on the sofa. The feeling of a new pack often overwhelmed wolves, it wasn’t uncommon for most to spend a couple of days recovering. They needed to adjust, mentally and emotionally.
Joonmyun softly stroked Baekhyun’s hair out of his face. “At least he wasn’t alone for long. He has never been alone, it would have been hard for him. Harder than suddenly having a new pack.”
“Will you be alright?” Yifan was looking at him with that deep concerned gaze that said so much that they never said aloud.
“I’ll be fine. I’ll adjust. He’s the one I’m more worried about.” Joonmyun finally allowed himself to stare at Yifan directly, “You’ll look after him, won’t you?” He couldn’t say more, it wasn’t his place now. Baekhyun was part of Yifan’s pack.
A sudden knock interrupted whatever Yifan was going to say as the door opened revealing a short but strong looking man. They nodded to each other in recognition as Yifan motioned to Baekhyun.
“Take him to his new quarters, Minseok.”
Minseok raised his eyebrows yet gave no other answer. Joonmyun remembered that Minseok never really spoke unless it was needed. He wondered how else he was similar or whether he had changed. Had the wolf that was promoted to Third after he left mated, was he still close to Yixing, did he still like football which he had apparently been obsessed with when he was human and hadn’t been able to give up when he became a wolf. He would have once called Minseok a friend yet they hadn’t talked in nearly 200 years.
He pressed a quick kiss to Baekhyun’s forehead before allowing Minseok to gently pick him up bridal style and take him from the room.
Joonmyun picked up a cloth and slowly pressed on the Yifan's wounded forearm. He was deep in thought, not noticing how the taller wolf was watching his face closely.
“Why did he seem surprised?”
“What do you mean?” Yifan sounded wary and that made Joonmyun shift around to watch the other Alpha more closely.
“Where is Baekhyun going? I trust Minseok which is why I let him take Baekhyun but why did he seem surprised when you told him to take him to his quarters? It was obvious you said that aloud for my benefit.”
“He-,” Yifan paused while he seemed to be composing himself, while he felt uneasiness grow within him. Had he just made a mistake? “He has been placed in the spare room of the room below us.”
Joonmyun felt something click in his mind, “That’s Luhan’s floor. You’re giving him to Luhan.” He growled. “What happened to giving him a choice? And on top of that he is an emotional wreck right now! He’s lost his pack, his father, his life, he doesn’t know anyone here and Luhan is about as delicate as a bull in a china shop! Luhan better not touch him before he is ready.” Joonmyun fumed.
“Luhan wouldn’t do anything that would harm him,” Yifan hissed, his eyes flashing as his wolf felt challenged by the other alpha's tone.
“He might not mean to but Luhan is an about as perceptive as a block of wood most of the time," Joonmyun didn't look Yifan in the eye but his voice was still furious.
“Baekhyun is his mate. You think Luhan has had it easy not having a mate? He’s 400 years old! You know what that does to wolf. And he knew Baekhyun was his mate the moment he smelt him.”
Comprehension dawned. “That’s why you approached me. That’s why you offered help. What would you have done if I had refused? Silently egged on the Kwon’s and then swooped in before he was claimed by another? You would have destroyed me and my pack to get him?”
Yifan was frozen, staring at the wall.
Joonmyun jumped up and left. He didn’t think he would be able to cope if he got the wrong answer.

Baekhyun woke slowly, the heaviness of sleep clouded his head but he felt his body gently pulling itself from the depths. As he became more aware of his surrounding his noticed the brightness of the room, the sun streaming through the floor to ceiling windows caused him the squint but he bet the view was gorgeous from them. The bed was comfy and warm, so he pulled the cover further up to retain the wonderful heat. It took a second for him the realise that most of the wonderful heat wasn’t caused by the heavy duvet but a body that was pressed firmly against his back. A face was buried in his neck, inhaling deeply and an arm curled possessively around his waist, tightening as he stiffened in fright.
“You’re awake. Finally!”
Baekhyun whimpered as the strong scent of an alpha surrounded him.

Important btw:
I just want to say cos I don't want you to get confused. There is a difference between Alpha and alpha (I know - I make life harder). An An Alpha is the head of a pack while alpha is the secondary sex of a werewolf. By secondary sex I mean, primary sex is male/female so therefore scondary sex is what else you are, alpha/beta/omega, which will tell someone whether someone can have children/how they could have children. And this is a sign that I have spent too much time reading omegaverse fanfic...
A/N:
I actually had to rewrite this completely. And I'm not sure how I feel about the changes I made... Can you believe I actually deleted the entire chapter I wrote 2 days ago?! Anyway while I was rewriting it (which was actually harder than it sounds even though it shoulda been fresh in my memory cos I was still writing it!), I actually had a new idea for the SeKai side so I decided to remove what I had written for them from this chapter and include it later. I then added the SuKris scene cos, you know, I thought that it would make sense for them to have one what with Suho bringing Baekhyun to Kris' pack. And then I kinda changed the LuBaek meeting scene completely!! It was going to have Luhan jumping on Baekhyun as soon as he entered the building and Suho getting mad, etc. But I am keeping some bits (ie Suho still got mad, though at Kris not Luhan) but they will be added to the beginning of the next chapter. So maybe me deleting my chapter was meant to happen... at least that's what I need to tell myself to prevent beating myself up!
I am so mean! I said I would give you a LuBaek scene and I give like 2 lines lol. But at least they meet... finally ;D
This would have been up sooner but me and my housemate started watching Game of Thrones!! OMG it's so good *rolls around in feels* I love fantasy and historical genres! A mash of them is brilliant. Maybe it's kinda obvious though since this is fantasy/supernatural and my other fic is historical... And then I started watching West Wing *sighs at own procrastination*
Also! I set up an ask.fm thing yesterday. Which I have no idea why I did but someone was talking to me about it and I thought, why not? I will sign up for another method of communication that I will suck at >.<
