What Makes Us Tick (And Not Tock)

I have been thinking lately...what makes us all tick? I don't mean the axons and dendrites in our brain, or our heart pumping at a rate of 60 beats a minutes, or anything like that. I mean, why is it that I am different from everyone else? And I don't mean that in a judgmental or bad way. I just mean it in a curious way. Why do I want to go to grad ( Read more... )

we're all running from boredom. Some take a spouce, enebriate themselves, or even collect hobbies to escape this bogeyman of human psyche.

everyone is delecately torn between their survival instinct and the desperate urge to resist being sucked into some despairing pit of monotany.

for instance... i fight boredom by posting in random blogs and playing with double-sided tape. ;)

I think at the root of it, the reason is that we were all created to be different. Just as there are no two fingerprints exactly the same, God created each individual to be unique. He created us to have our own sets of desires, dreams, loves, and talents. Some of this is developed by our environment as we grow up - the core values instilled in each one of us, and the friends we have, but I think it's mostly just the fact that we were created to be different.

Ah the beauty and variety of human beings. I'm usually the girl who falls for the boy next door, myself. Unfortunately, I usually end up moving next to some real assholes. :)

Sometimes it's best not to drive yourself crazy wondering why people behave the way they do. Some people are good, some people are bad, most people will never change and that's just the way it is.

Haha! Easier said than done! I am a psych major! That is what precipitated that whole diatribe! Our recent nature v nuture discussions. I am naturally curious about why people act as they do! But, I know I will never have a truly satisfying answer.
