I don't want to do my report cards. Not too excited about parent conferences next week either. But it's the report card doing that I hate

it bugs me how they do that with kids...toss them in and see if they float.
I am learning disabled -- completely compensated due to me doggedly working my ass off, however my mom, the teachers, everyone just assumed that since I was so smart that I should be able to keep up with accelerated classes.
I would've done better if they let me drop down a level.
Yep. If she were in a higher grade, she'd get to spend part of her day in an ESL class, a class for newcomers. But for the younger ones, they just toss them in with a regular class and the teacher has to essentially design (and find a way to teach, while also teaching the rest of the class) an ESL curriculum just for the one student. I suppose I could ignore her, and just tell her to try to do the work that of course she can't do, and figure she'll know enough English by next year to be able to get by, but I have too much of a conscience to do that.
what kills me is that a lot of the kids moved to these school systems because they're thought to be good or what not and it turns out they're not getting the support or education they require because the teachers are spent because they're not supported by the system. grrr...
I'm sorry you have to deal with it. I'm sure she'll appreciate the help you give :)
It's a compliment to you that you are sensitive to this girl's situation and what she must be feeling. I am sure that with you as a teacher that she will acclimate as well as she can. :D
She's lucky that she ended up in my class, because I have the sweetest group of kids this year. They are nice and invite her to play with them, and help her with the work, translating and guiding, and also teaching her words in English. They are my little assistants. :)
