Jack has arrived!  For the first time in my increasingly long life, I have adopted a dog.  Actually, I should say that my wife and I have adopted a dog.  Jack is a very small dog, something like nine weeks old.  We think he might be a crossbreed of a beagle and a Jack Russell terrier, often known as a Jackabee.  He weighs about five pounds.  FYI, ( Read more... )

Today is the first anniversary of stepping out of a classroom due to the pandemic and not back since. I'm teaching on Zoom.

I fell asleep last night an hour or so earlier than usual--about 10--and woke this morning around 5:30.  That's plenty of sleep for me, even for a Saturday.  I lay in bed and read an article in New York by Frank Rich about the social and artistic history of the musical Oklahoma that enlightened me about much regarding what Oklahoma was truly like ( Read more... )

We are ok. We are allowing the beautiful and the terrible to live side by side and calling it life. We are creating a lot and consuming little. The garden is comfort, food and beauty in the caring of living, tender things. I am in love with the birds that come to the feeder and the little squirrels that clean up below. I'm grateful to the person who chose to take the 12-inch tube TV I set out front with a FREE TV sign on it. I put it there on Sunday morning and also posted an ad on a couple of Facebook Flea Market pages.
