There are nights when Lupin cannot bear to sit still, and he flees the house for solitary walks that take him all over London until he is sufficiently numbed by cold and exhaustion to return. There are nights when Tonks suddenly crumples into full-out sobbing, howling and crying for hours regardless of where or with whom she finds herself. There are nights when Lupin and Tonks dare not leave Snape to his own devices, because his ghosts are too eager to claim him, and it takes all of Lupin’s resilience and Tonks’s vitality to tether Snape safely to the present.
