Someone dropped this box full of puppies off at the clinic today. I was the first person there this morning and I found them outside the door. There are eight total. They look like lab mixes, and they're pretty young, probably not two months old yet. I didn't bring them home with me, but we don't have room to foster them at the clinic either. I

If you know of a parent organization that opens branches of shelters in place that might be the way to go. Umm... sorry this doesn't sound helpful... though if you find a building you need renovated, then I can definitely help with that.

As for the shelter, if you decide to do it, I could call in some of our contacts we worked with when we were getting the program set up here.

I'd appreciate any help insofar as the shelter is concerned. I know it sounds like a massive project, and it really is, but you know how much I love animals and I'd love to be able to help them find good homes.

Have you ever had a dog before?

No, that's a problem, isn't it? I always wanted one, but my dad hated them.

Not having had a dog before isn't a problem. You just have to think it through. A dog is a big commitment. Some of them live up to fifteen years, and they depend on you completely to take care of them. It's like having a small child, kind of. When you get a puppy, you have to train it, make sure it always has food and water, take it for walks, etc.
I'm not trying to discourage you from getting a dog, mind you. I'm just trying to make sure that you consider all the time and effort (and money) that having a pet requires. Then again, they'll also love you unconditionally, and be your best friend until they die.
Of course, I'll be around to help you (and anyone else in the building who has a pet, really) when you need assistance or advice. If you have any questions, just ask me. If you're still interested in possibly adopting a puppy, just let me know.
