For what seemed like the tenth time, RED opened his eyes to find he was no longer in Paradise or in his bed with Pyro, but somewhere else completely; however, as frustrated as he got with what was apparently the end of him ever sleeping peacefully again, he was occasionally surprised in a good way by what he wandered into.

Australia again- he pushed the eared hood off his head, landscape striking familiar chords in him immediately. That was a comfort. More reassuring was when he spotted someone he recognized: his rival, carving away while waiting for the fish to bite. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad, after all.

Pushing himself off the ground, RED wandered to him. This had to be a dream, he thought- he didn't need his crutches for even a second to walk.

"I haven't slept right in some time. This kind of thing ain't new to me."

That was a bit of a stretch, as the 'going into other people's dreams' part was definitely unlike anything he'd experienced before; however, it was true he didn't sleep well most nights, anyway. There was only so much having Pyro beside him could do.

RED was silent a moment. "It could always be worse, mate. Look at this- Australia. What are the chances we're gonna see this place again?"

"Probably not high." His look got wistful for a moment. "I miss it mate. This is home and ..."

He trailed off, the knowledge that he was never going to see it again somehow lodging itself in his mind.

"Fishin' here is better than in Paradise."

"Yeah. There's no place quite like the Outback, mate."

More silence, followed by a sigh. "I s'ppose we can enjoy it while it lasts, though. Like ya said, it's not bad here. Not bad at all."

"Yeah. Might end up in Spy's dream next." A distinct shudder followed that. Who knew what awful lewd things went through Spy's mind.

"So is this your dream or mine?"

RED shuddered at that thought, the notion he might end up in Spy's dream at some point having already crossed his mind. He'd had enough to mull over already.

"Yours, I s'ppose. I don't think I'd know it was a dream if it was mine."

"Guess so. All things considered." His fingers went to the silver wedding band on his finger, spinning it around.

"Yeah. S'not real. But it's nice."

The glint of silver in the light caught RED's eye- he sent a glance toward BLU's hands, watching him fiddle with his ring a moment, then turned away again ( ... )

"Hm?" He turned to look over at his rival, unsure what he meant, then his eyes went to his hand. He hadn't even realized he'd been messing with his ring, it was an unconscious habit he'd forgotten he even had.

"Oh. It's ... It's real nice. Almost forgot how much I miss this life, till I'm suddenly back here." The birds waddled around the shore while the wind picked up a gentle breeze. It was perfect, just the way he remembered it. Back when he didn't have to die on a daily basis, back when he didn't kill people for a living, back when everything was in his life seemed to be working out.

"It's worth it mate, even if it don't work out in the end. It's worth it."

Nervous habits kicked in as RED ran a hand through his hair. It was odd, both BLU speaking well of something that seemed more trouble than it was worth, given the way he'd been been acting on the phone on Valentine's day, and himself asking about it at all. RED sighed- BLU had lost a lot, if his sentimentality to those rings was any indication, and probably handled it better than he ever could ( ... )

"Why would ya think that?"Sure he wasn't fond of Pyro, but he was fairly certain she snapped at him and threatened to kill him because he was on the opposing team. Most of the younger members seemed to take the RED and BLU rivalry very seriously, Scout was a good example of that.

BLU picked the bird carving back up, turning it over and over in his hands just so he'd have something to look at. His eyes softened a bit, even in the dream world he knew what was going to happen: He was going to drive home with a mess of fish, give her the carving and she was going to throw her arms around him and tell him he was wonderful.

Wonderful. For now anyway.

Sighing he spoke up again, his eyes never leaving the carving. "Well ya ain't been at it that long. Give it time mate. Jus' give it time."

"You say that like I've got all the time in the world," RED said, having a seat, setting his elbows on his knees. His hand went under his hood, scratching his head- it gave him an excuse to look at the ground rather than at BLU. "For all I know, either one of us could be gone tomorrow."

He scratched his head with more fervor, wishing his hat was there, feeling those nervous habits take hold of him as he tried to push down what more there was to say. Even if they did both remain at Paradise, the chances of him ruining a good thing were high. They always were.

"S'possible I guess. But she's been there a good long time. Whatever it is people do t' be able t' leave she ain't done yet. So she probably won't." He smirked briefly. "Maybe th' key is t' make muffins for everyone in th' town. Or do something nice fer everyone."

He almost laughed at the thought that a Spy would inadvertently figure out how to leave Paradise. Though he actually thought it was just at random and was trying to make RED feel a bit better about his chances.

"You go on with that attitude it's no wonder yer always cranky. Though you could end it an' break her heart if that would make you feel better."

"I..." A knot had formed in his throat, an admittance on his tongue. Even though this was a dream and he kept telling himself BLU probably wouldn't remember it- or he hoped so, anyway- it was still difficult to say to anyone, even her.

His posture tightened, legs drawn closer in some reflex to protect himself, as though the simple act of telling the truth was an attack on him. He let out a frustrated snort. "I can't. I need her."

"Then act loike it." He shrugged, taking his knife out again to work on the carving. Even though this wasn't real, and he wasn't actually going to be able to give it to Brandy, he still enjoyed doing it.

"Look mate, I ain't sayin' this thing between you an' Pyro is all fantastic, because yer teammates an' you never should 'ave let yerself get mixed up with her in th' first place. But ya did, and you can't change that now. So you can either leave her, which ya don't want t' do, or jus' go along with it. It ain't bad t' have someone you care about, who cares about you. Yer actin' loike she's secretly a Spy or something."

"I do not," he retorted stubbornly. He treated Spies far worse.

Still, he knew BLU was right. He certainly didn't act like he fully trusted her. "Look, I'm tryin'. I don't-" A breath, in and out. "It's... havin' someone like that, where we watch out for one another- it gets me riled up. It's like everyone's out to get her suddenly, lookin' to take her away. It's harder and harder to ignore."

And some days, like the one where he confronted her mother, he didn't ignore it at all.
