Such a charmer!

Today during ice dance session, DB announced to the gathered group that “Simone is the leader in the adult falling category!”  And the funny thing is that he actually thinks he’s complimenting me!  Anyway, it was a good session - we spent the first 50 minutes just working basics - edges, progressives, swing rolls, cross rolls, and 3turns - all to ( Read more... )

ha ha, DB is a cheeky man. Falling means you're pushing.

Nice job on the spirals too.

Yes, falling is good, as it means you're pushing at your limits. Most adults don't fall nearly enough, because they're holding back, which really slows progress.

Well done on the foxtrot mohawk - those things are not easy. I know a skater who was working on double jumps when she learned the foxtrot, and thought trying to do the mohawk in time with the music was far scarier than axels, double sals...

I tell you, I believe that. I really do. I've seen that Foxtrot mohawk. Yikes.

3turn: Yay on those spirals. Those are not easy. In fact, I was thinking (though I don't ever plan on taking the test you're taking) of asking my coach to show me those, as I think working them will help my change-edge spiral).

I agree re the falling. What a funny guy, DB. Love your stories about him. What gets me is every time I fall at our "Coffee Club" everyone comes rushing up with "are you ok, are you OK?", which is nice I suppose. But on pubic session or freestyle? NO ONE comes up, lol! I'm surprised I haven't broken something yet. So, if you read about that one day, DON'T be surprised!

Last, kudos on the outside mohawk. I can hit those every single time now, IF I go slow, and IF I concentrate really hard. Now to convert to where they are needed, at the appropriate speed!

I never liked the preliminary inside spirals. Something about that pattern just makes every push and transition awkward, and then you have to hold a really nice edge and a act like your totally steady when in reality you're holding on for dear life (well, at least I am)...
