Even after all this time it is strange to me that Luceti has no economy. It is unthinkable in my country to have a country or city, or rather a commune as I believe we could be classified, without a system of economy. I suppose it would mean less colds, but-First, let me thank all of those who participated in my call for autographs in my last ( Read more... )

[The filtering is mostly precautionary, though the question itself might be a little embarrassing. Still, Robert is certainly curious.]

The economic state of Luceti affects your health, Mr. Japan?

Also, in terms of obtaining electronics - unfortunately, it is mostly true. Sometimes the Malnosso are cooperative - for example, I was allowed to obtain my nanocomputer from home - but more often than not, it is likely that they would refuse such a request. You could attempt to ask, though.

Or I could ask for you, if you had anything in mind. [It'd give him an excuse to talk to Molly...]

Several, of various kinds. Don and his family are all capable ninjas - and Don is the one who told me about ethical fighting. Additionally, my friends Mr. Giles and Ms. Daisy have also offered to assist.

But the more help I receive, the better. [Different opinions, different styles of... fighting... he promised himself he'd at least listen.]

It sounds as though you have quite a few people. It is best to test them all and stick with one, in my experience at least.

How do you test something like this, though? It seems something that does not lend itself easily to standardization.

Take lessons and see which fits best to you. For example, some who have little physical strength but great accuracy with firearms will choose that. Those who have no taste for arms, but possess grace turn to martial arts that emphasize flow rather than brute force. There are many ways to fight that do not require beating one's enemy like a common thug.

[Robert tries to imagine himself doing any of the three things, and the mental image is so laughable he shivers a little.]

I suppose I will have to do a lot of cross-referencing to try to find a way that is suitable for me.

[... However blasphemous it sounds to find a fighting style suitable for a Terran.]

It would be best, yes. And I wish you luck with it.

Thank you, Mr. Japan.

I would like to collaborate with you in future. On anything, really. [Robotics, science, even just... talking. Hell, Japanese culture - Robert sees a learning opportunity there especially.] Whenever it would be acceptable for you.

Ah. Sometime in the future then, yes. Once things have settled.

I hope to speak to you again soon, then.

[And with that, Robert will quietly end the conversation, feeling a little better about this whole violence thing. A little. There are people who think peace is still a better option, yes, and so perhaps there's a way to keep that mindset while still learning to defend himself.]
