Pending Citizenship

Not sure who saw it and who didn't, but my citizenship test is coming up next Tuesday. I've been randomly taking practice tests since I found out and boy is it fun. All that aside, I had a particularly special Canadian experience today. I turned a corner and almost ran into someone. That's not the special part. What was special and interesting, was ( Read more... )

Is there a practical manners section of the test?

Also, GOOD LUCK! You should wear a Blue Jays hat or a Leafs jersey when you go to the test just so you can make it totally clear how serious you are. (Does that sound flippant? I feel like that sounds flippant. I know that this is very serious and important and I'm so tired right now and I'm overthinking everything but GOOD LUCK.)

Sadly, no. Actually, kind of, possibly. They can choose to give you a verbal test to see if you understand the culture very well. So that could potentially be part of it I suppose.

I don't think it would be too crazy to wear my hockey sweater (see, I say that in Canadian too), except for the fact that it's so friggin' hot right now. It was 104 F on my drive home today as I sat in traffic and roasted. So maybe a big heavy shirt would look a little over the top. I do plan on changing my middle name to Gord on Facebook once I get my citizenship though.

Blake! It was not 104 F it was 40 C.

that being said I have a tendency to measure temps in F because degrees in F are smaller thus more precise but YOU NEED TO BE SUPER CANADIAN

I was only speaking in F because I was responding to an American. I go both ways quite comfortably though.

That's one of the dead giveaways of TV shows shot in Canada and packaged for US viewers.

I've been busted on my accent so many times you have no idea. Dollar (ya know back when I was working in collections) or college get me every time. It's becoming less noticeable as time goes on though.

They don't. The States is way more strict in that regard.
