I have to go to the funeral home today. I found out yesterday that an old friend of mine, we graduated together, had passed away unexpectedly. His brother called and left me a message ... he and I also used to be really close back in the day. The Heron's are doing pretty good. The babies are getting very active, and every once in a while I can see little baby Heron heads poking up out of the nest. All this even after the raccoon attack a couple of weeks ago ( Read more... )

There are at least two sets of Black Crowned Night Herons living in the tree in front of my house. And as I write this, there are likely 10 little baby chicks up there in the nest either hatching out, or getting there. Now one might wonder, as I have, what on earth are Herons doing living in a neighborhood where the closest water source is the next ( Read more... )
