Job interviews! - RESULTS

BOTH my interviews went really well!! I think anyway.

but I'm faced with a conundrum about the jobs.

JOB.1. SALES COMMISSION.
Now, I thought this was some admin stuff, but REALLY. It is me (or me paying a telemarketer) to find people in the phone book, who want a new website. Then making an arrangement to see said people and convicing them to agreee ( Read more... )

I'd definitely go for the latter, it sounds a lot more stable. Commission jobs tend to kick you out the moment you can't meet sales targets.

I'll second the vote for the Piping Hot job. You should NEVER be working for commissions ONLY - there's a great deal of pressure, people tend to get really bitchy about your roles, and what they don't tell you is that commissions get heavily taxed, so you won't actually be getting $300 per sale. For example when I did telemarketing (for 4 days... that's how much soul-destroying I could tolerate before I left), Even though I sold over $3000 in ads, after their 'insurance' fees and taxes, my pay for the week came out to just under $400. Telemarketing firms are notorious for making promises that screw people over. If it were me I wouldn't accept a job without a guaranteed wage.

whats your opinion on the 2nd job?

It sounds a lot more stable and like a healthier working environment. The job may get a little dull if it's admin all the time, but it's got to be better than safeway, and you'll have a chance to develop better workplace relationships. Main thing I'd worry about is the traffic XD

Well if you are good at making sales the first one could be really good, however did they mention if there was a base rate...like if you didn't make any sales will they still pay you. If it had a base rate it would be ok.

However, the second one does sound more stable, and it can get you into the Admin type roles, yeah and when you feel like you don't want to deal with people, you won't have to that much if you choose the 2nd job.

But yeah up to u...

Yeah he was saying some dude makes 10+ sales a week, I doubt he makes $2500 a week lol MAYBE HE DOES!

yeah he probably did... what he didn't say is that he omits the truth to get them and then won't clean up his shit afterwards (now I know why...) and we in adelaide end up with some really terrible, irrate nasty clients that make the rest of our jobs a living hell too. That has been a real insight into things. I'm spreading the "melbourne system" around the office. What a piece of crap. Sorry :( I recommend not taking it. I thought he would offer an hourly rate.

thats ok. It isn't your fault. Some people are good at sales and stuff, so they can excel.

This dude in Brisbane apparently is great

I just dont find the idea of looking people up in a phone book, asking them if they want a ewbsite, hunting them down and forcing them to sign money a good thing XD

cause if i want to apply for a costume course, that would help right? i mean, help me understand the industry a little? even though it would prob be better for fashion...

I think it would! It would definately contribute towards your "fashion" experience, having to understand garment measurements, and could there be room to move up a little later on or take on different roles? Sounds like there is more room to grow etc.

I think the second job is better. A wage is much more reliable!

I'm fairly sure that commission jobs are much harder than they make them sound. I've worked as a webdesigner for many years now and it's not really a booming business coz everybody's doing it ^_^; If you don't make a sale at all for the whole week, how are you going to cope? It could be a bit stressful!
