TITLE: Seven Deadly Sins (GREED)
PAIRING: Jack and Will interaction, mentions of both J/E and W/E
RATING: PG-13
SUMMARY: Fifth part in the Seven Deadly Sins series, it looks like I may actually finish something. Anyhow, this is, ah, something that came to me because I listen to the Decemberists too much, and the story of the crane wife just worked ( Read more... )

This was wonderfully effective, and Jack and Will are perfectly drawn.

"Point is, William, some women, some people, aren't meant to be caught. They're like birds, or, bird people, or ... something," he makes a face, as though he actually saw the absurdity of his statement, ".... some people, you can't cage them, no matter how much you'd like to, and the only up I've got on you, lad, is that I know enough to know that." He breathes, finally, and shakes his head, "I know to meet her where she lives."

There's a beat.

"That, and I'm not a eunuch."

Such quintessential Jack -- the "birds, or, bird people, or ... something" and the "eunuch" remark -- hilarious and yet the plain truth at the core.

And then Will's realization that Elizabeth had loved Jack first, years before she met him. And the end, Jack's toast and Will's bitter conclusion.

Great work! Must go back and read the others, very soon.

Thanks so much, I really wanted to flesh out Will's realization, and had toyed with the idea of just ending on his last line, instead of following it up with explanation. But I wasn't sure if the sentiment would be assumed without it ... hence the explanation.

Glad I got the idea across as I'd meant to, and that you enjoyed it. :D

Again, words fail me to express how much I love your work. Razor sharp and gritty, can't wait to read the next one!

Next one'll be out soon, wrath, I think, and then pride will be my, hopefully, big opus. Stay tuned, and thank you.

...come to the sickening realization that, under it all, she had loved Jack first. Even before she'd met him. And he'd spent a lifetime chasing a bird.

Ouch. The interaction between the two of them here is great. Lovely work!

Thanks so much, I've only recently started to incorporate Will into my work so it's good to know that I've done it effectively. Glad you liked it!

I'm really liking these. Great use of that story (and it's such an amazing song)--I loved the implication/subtext that Jack is also one of those "bird people." And then Will's realization that Jack was there first, in a way, in Elizabeth's heart.

Thank you. :] I really love the entire album, but the Crane wife songs are, I think, perfect for the less idealized side of W/E. Or, maybe, idealized in a very different way.

Oh, that was so good. I love that bit about her loving Jack first. I'd never thought about it like that. Poor Will, it must have been such a kick in the gut.

It was a recent idea I had. I blame Regina Spektor, and this young!W/E drabble I wrote in a different time and username. Poor Will, indeed.
