I was just sitting here, unable to sleep, watching the storm from my dark living room, and lightning struck the woods about 200 yards away from my balcony. It's been about 20 minutes, and every time I blink or more lightning flashes, I can still see the streak. It was goddam loud, too. It's strange when you have literally no lag between seeing ( Read more... )

sometimes i like the storms. as long as my power doesnt go out.
so i heard that everywhere "down state" is without power (or nearly everywhere, anyway) so did you lose yours at all? My mom's house has been without it since Friday and wont get it back until Tuesday.

I haven't been getting around much lately, between school and moving preparations, but last night I drove down to Royal Oak and back, passing through the middle of most of Oakland County, and I didn't see any major areas without power. Ours has flickered off a few times, but for no longer than a moment; a certifiable miracle, considering we lose power at this apartment complex if someone farts sideways.

To quench your thirst for the suffering of us "down staters," the first floor apartments of the building opposite ours flooded with over 18" of water this morning, forcing the management to displace everyone to new, 2nd floor units. One girl I spoke to lost almost nothing of importance, and was moved to from her little one-bedroom place to a unit nearly twice as large. Lucky her.

I hope you're doing well, Keely.

For the second time tonight, I find myself mystified as to how exactly I went about missing completely a comment to one of my (all to seldom) posts. I'm sure that you've long-ago forgotten this post altogether, so forgive me for the randomness of this reply.

As a matter of fact, I *did* have that class with you. Our professor's name escapes me at the moment, as well, but I really enjoyed her class. I really think she gave us some very good material to read (I especially loved [and have since re-read] Mda's Ways of Dying), and despite my grade in the class (which I comfort myself to this day by attributing to a mistake), would take again, given the chance ( ... )
