Ad Hoc cookbook

One of my writers gives me an Amazon e-gift every Christmas, and this year I used it to order the latest cookbook from Thomas Keller since it's homestyle cooking. The book is just gorgeous, and I'm so glad to own it. Even if I never make anything out of it, which is highly unlikely, I'm glad I have it. I have his French Laundry book. I have cooked one or two things out of there. A friend of mine put it best, "there is always a three or four recipes within one recipe."

Yeah, I think French Laundry is beyond my abilities. That's why I bought this one. It's not "30 Minute Meals" by any stretch, but it's more accessible.

I will say the french laundry recipe for strawberry sorbet is stupid easy and delicious. It ends up being the one I make in the Summer.

I just got it yesterday, but paging through it last night made me happy. And hungry. And impatient to get into the kitchen to try out a few things.

I have several cookbooks I love to read but never cook from. They serve mostly as inspiration.
