My acting coach lived in Austin for a long time--went to school there--and he loved it. According to him, it has an incredibly rich arts community, so if you do move there, I think you'll enjoy it. Austin has a growing film base thanks to Robert Rodriguez and Richard Linklater (sp?), so you may also have the opportunity to dip into that realm, too.

Yeah, that's what I had heard, but I appreciate hearing it from others who know! My friends, who now live in another part of Texas, but lived in Austin for a long time, talked about how "clique-y" the theatre community is there, which contrasts with Chicago quite a bit. But the thing that really excited me is that they said that, while there is quite a bit of theatre and a good audience for theatre, there's not a lot of really good theatre. I think I've learned a bit about how to make pretty good theatre, and taking that into that community excites me. A lot.
