When you still care about someone, how do you get their attention? Even though it has been so long, and more than likely they dont give a shit, then what?

I started reading this "Perks of Being a Wallflower" and I am a few pages almost done and to be honest I did not enjoy it. It did not touch me, or leave me thinking, and how much the guy cries annoys me. I don't know why I heard so many times "it was such a great book!!!11" because it really isnt.
