Hi... I was a member of body_obsession for a very long time prior to your mod change (congrats on that by the way) and I would like to rejoin but I have a few concerns. I see lots of "anti-ED" talk in the community info now. Does that mean all pro-ED thoughts or people dealing with EDs is off limits? I don't remember the community being like that before and if it has changed a whole lot then I guess I shouldn't want to join... but I really miss BunnyJo! Thanks for your time and I hope to be back in the group soon. =)

Hi, welcome back.

A brief explanation. The community is absolutely NOT "anti" ED, or people with them. What I saw around the time that I became maintainer was that a lot of the focus in body_obsession was changing from being an "issues of the body" to an "eating disorders" community, much like pro_ana. While I have absolutely no problem with people discussing, complaining about, or asking questions about eating disorders (since that's a good portion of our membership), I didn't want the community to turn into another pro_ana. Why not? Because pro_ana already exists and we don't need another one. I personally disagree with the "pro-ED" attitude (meaning the idea that eating disorders are OK to have, and the justification and even encouragement of such unhealthy activities) but beyond that, I think that there are PLENTY of pro communities on LJ already and there's no need to add another. Most of them are all the same and there's no point in joining more than one... I wanted body_obsession to be both unique and also all-inclusive... it's a forum for discussing ALL body-related issues ( ... )

Oh! You must have commented RIGHT after I made it an open membership (or else it didn't work, for some reason). Oh well. I'll add you now. :) I hope your time away was good to you.

I was wondering if I could add you to my friends list... it's ok if I can't... I won't be mad or anything. Your life is your own to share or keep private...
