The First Meeting The Wrong Idea "Bam, I have a surprise for you," Ville said, trying not to laugh until after Bam saw it.
Bam nodded, clapping his hands together with delight. "What you got for me, Willa?" All his friends had gone inside to hog his video game system so it was just him and Ville, exactly the way he preferred it.
Ville discreetly let the snake out of his pocket, watching sneakily as it slithered through the grass toward Bam's foot, tapping impatiently as he waited for his gift.
He snickered quietly. "You'll feel it in a second."
Bam tilted his head, obviously confused as to what Ville meant, until he must have felt the snake's head against his sneakered foot. Immediately, his eyes turned to under the table to see what it was that had touched him; Ville watched his reaction with barely suppressed amusement.
Bam's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates and he scrambled back, falling over the back of his chair and still doing a sort of crabwalk as far backwards as he could get, eyes still wide open with horror, screaming at the top of his lungs.
Ville laughed inwardly, sure he had played the greatest prank ever; Bam's reaction was better than he'd expected.
It was only when he leant to get the snake and put it back in his pocket that Ville realized something was very wrong, as Bam ran and pulled him back, standing slightly behind him, actually shaking with fear. "D-Don't go near it," he whispered, eyes not having left the snake for one second.
The snake came a bit closer and Bam threw himself into Ville's arms with a whimper, clutching Ville's silk shirt to the point of tearing it in two. Ville felt wetness soak through the material to his chest and felt like the biggest ass alive. He certainly wasn't trying to make Bam cry because of a stupid prank!
He held Bam gently and stroked his curls tenderly, shushing him and murmuring, "It's alright" and "You're safe" until Bam could calm down.
Slowly, he did, stepping back from Ville with a quivering bottom lip and watery blue eyes and swallowing hard as he turned around. The minute he saw the snake still there, he squeaked and bolted into the house.
Ville sighed, grabbing up the snake and placing it back in the small box with air holes in his pocket, then followed Bam inside.
It seemed Bam had had some time to think, though, as Ville stepped in the living room, where Bam stood in the corner.
"Are you alright, Bammie?", he asked, not noticing the coldness in Bam's blue eyes.
"Get out, Ville," Bam said cruelly, pointing toward the door and scowling at his friend.
"Bam!", his mother gasped. She'd never heard Bam use that tone with Ville before.
Ville was dumbfounded, his green eyes widening, taking a step back almost subconsciously. "Bam, I...Bammie, I'm really sorry...", he rambled, horrorstruck by the idea that Bam might not forgive him for this one.
"Get. Out." Bam said again, brandishing his pointing arm with a fierce glare.
Ville tried once more. "Bam, please...I-I didn't know...don't do this..."
Bam gritted his teeth before yelling, "I said out!"
Ville bowed his head, hiding the tears he could feel pooling in his eyes, not wanting Bam to see him cry. "A-Alright, Bam, if that's what you want..."
Without lifting his head, he nodded once and walked to the door, whispering, "Happy Birthday, sweetheart," and closing the door behind him, the entire room able to hear the defeat and the threat of tears in his voice.
