Editing and Translating at the same time... Aye Carumba.

I've spent the entire day editing and translating this doujinshi (The Day God was Produced by Emotional Q, scanned by sakurazukalori) and I have finally finished one page. orz I thought "well, we should really have a release... I wonder what the shortest doujin we have is so that I could just do everything by myself?" I was pretty pleased when I ( Read more... )

looks pretty good! Something I would suggest is after levelling (are you using Auto Levels or playing with it manually?) the image is making a duplicate layer and setting it on multiply, 50%. It just makes the lines darker and a bit sharper without having to use unsharp mask

It's half manual, half auto. I put a black and white filter over it (the original is really red in some parts. This original page in particular is probably the closest to black and white) and then lightened it up a little. Hmmm- that sounds really good ^^;; Thanks- I'll try to do that. I definitely didn't think this would take so much out of me... The translation is pretty easy (although this doujin is plot driven. Huh... who knew?), but the cleaning...@_@ Baaaah.

Levels is really great for getting rid of odd colors (one of the doujin that I scanned in earlier this year was half in green, half in white; it was a little frustrating), but it looks like you've actually got pretty good quality scans, thankfully.

Idealistically, you should be able to get rid of all the color and get it just black and white with just Levels. (this is what I got just with levels and the multiply at 50%; it's a little red still, since I didn't drag the black over as far as I should've) But yeah, cleaning and editing scans is what really kills you. I don't mind redrawing and cloning as much as I used to, but I'd still rather not if possible :'D

Yes! I did that and they looked better. Thank you so much for that advice. It really made them sharper...

Ooh, I think it looks nice. Is this your first time with editing/cleaning? If so, then I'm impressed! I've tried fiddling around with cleaning/editing, and it got really frustrating really quickly (it didn't help that I tried it using some not-so-quality scans...) And to have translated it on top of that... wow. That is a lot of work. 0_0

If I had more experience with image editing programs, I'd totally try to edit some djs for CHS...

Good luck on your mission! ^^

...Yeah, it was my first time. I felt the need to acknowledge us hitting 1000 members with SOMETHING. I mean, I doubt if we'll hit 2000 or anything like that, but 1000 is... wow. Normal scan communities on LJ reach about 500-1000 and we're specialized. ^^; I used a tutorial that Forever-more provided. Editing/cleaning isn't that bad, actually... I mean, I could be better and more efficient, but there was a decent end product, soo.... ^^;
Thanks~!

o_O this is completely random if I seem the least bit scary, feel free to ignore my comment. ;]

I noticed that you were a translator for the Chained Hearts. I run a scanlation group myself & am desperately trying to hunt down more translators for Death Note doujinshi. I run a small scanlation group called Mirusmayhem <-- I have no idea if you have heard of us.

But I'm interested in trying to translate as much Death Note doujinshi as possible. Would you be interested in helping out?

By the way, your editing looks wonderful but I would probably recommend a different font since Its kind of hard to read but judging from the date of this entry...yea. lol

I could translate in about a week and possibly churn out translations pretty quickly. =) Thanks for the compliment! Yeah, I probably should have gone with a bigger font... first time editing and all, I suppose. Haha. Just let me know!

A little bigger. I would probably use a font like Wild Words or Anime Ace 2.0 for normal reading since it makes it easier to read but overall, definitely not bad at all. I'm an editor myself, not an insanely pro one, but I know know what I'm talking about.

lol. No problem. Take your time. I'm in any rush to get projects done asap. ;] Whenever you can would be wonderful.

If you are still up for it in a week or two, we would love to have you. Just send me an e-mail or LJ message me. I usually respond pretty fast.

Great =) I actually will be able to start on Tuesday. I'm tempted to tell you to send it to me now, but I don't want to get distracted from my finals. Haha
