Things about religion i don't get..

1) So, religious nutters believe homosexuality / drug / alcohol use is wrong? So why don't hey just NOT do it, and let all the other people who do get on with it. They'll end up in Heaven, we'll end up in Hell, everything works out nicely. Surely it should be God doing the judging, not them ( Read more... )

1. religions are very practical things. they're devolped as a means of controlling or expanding a society. when you think about it in strict terms all the things you've mentioned don't benefit the expansion or control of a society in it's strictest sense. were religions are about individual choice or freedom (christianity in it's strictest sense for instance) they are normally the religion of the poor or dispossesed ( ... )

I disagree. You imply that religion is a rationalized response to a situation. A religion cannot be forced upon a society. It can only be taken up by a society looking for missing links; one that cannot explain the processes shaping and defining it that lie without its control.

1. The majority of Christians, Jews, Buddists, etc don't try to force their ideas onto other people. Evangelical Christians believe they have a duty to save souls, which is why they do it. I have heard that the Koran instructs Muslims to kill all non-Muslims, but I haven't read it myself so I don't know if that is true ( ... )
