I need something to read.  Its easier to go to the library if I'm looking for something specific.  Can you all give me a few titles each?

DIY stuff is a lot like work as that's what I do every day, but if you've got something that really stands out I'd be interested. What are you looking for for DIY books?
Fiction, non-fiction, history, politics, pop-science what every really.

Dammit! I was going to suggest those books. Anyway, yeah, the Dresdan Files. They're fantastic pulp that'll keep you occupied for some time.

Also, he's one of us. The picture in the back of his latest book looks like one of the cooler people you might find hanging out at Eagles.

If you like Dresden files, try the Felix castor books.

apprentice, I'm friending you in hopes we'll do some table top at some point. I hope that's cool. If not, let me know.

It's unlikely to come up at this late date, but it's happened before. If anyone, especially a reporter, asks for my contact info, please don't give it, and send me a heads up. Thanks. I've PM'd yopu my info.

For fiction I recommend

"Perdido Street Station" and "The Scar" by China Miéville

"water wars" and "a world without us" are both decent nonfiction, though can be thick and tedious at times.

Accelerando by Charles Stross.
The entire Honor Harrington series by David Weber. Several books, MilSciFi, should keep you busy.
At Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge, which goes into some of the practical details of prosthetic memory and telecommunications.

This is embarrising to admit on LJ. I was working on Accelerando on my itouch when I dropped it in the toilet. The others I have read all the way through.

Finally read Accelerando all the way through, and have been working on other Stross stuff. The HH series has its high points, I love the FLT, and how much time Weber spent thinking about space tactic and the like, however the formula is well formulaic. Vernor Vinge is a long time favorite. Have you read the stuff his x-wife (Joan D. Vinge) Snow Queen (maybe Winter Queen?), and Summer Queen being the best of her lot.

You may also want to try The Merchant Prince series by Stross as well. Less technopunk, more alternate worlds what-if.

On a completely different note, Sarah Monette's Melusine series is very well written. Fantasy with interesting characters.

I am waiting for Ashcake to give me a list longer than my arm which is what happened the last time I talked about books with her.

I've read Old Man's War but only the first book. I wasn't aware there was another out. I've never heard of Sarah Monette's stuff, I'll have to give it a try. I have read some Robin Hobb but its been awhile. Let's see here SharonShinn is new to me, and Lois McMaster Bujold I may have read some but I'm not sure.
