I've been puzzling all week about how to put some protections on the play without being too obvious. I mean, a big ritual on the stage or the theater itself is bound to raise a few eyebrows. After the stink the principal made about that new teacher, Taffy Dante, wearing a pentacle to school, I'd say it's not the best idea. So it hit me when I ( Read more... )

I'm always up for the chance to dabble in magic. I've been so busy with the boyfriend and real life stuff, so I was thrilled when Heather called me and said she was ready for the spell she wanted my help with. So here I am, all set to practice the magic arts.

"Come on in," I say to Amy. "I've got everything ready, I think."

I have a candle and incense spread out on my coffee table, along with a bowl of water and the stack of scripts. Okay, so it's not a real altar or anything, but I'd done a quick consecration of it earlier in the day.

"New moon tonight, so it'll be perfect for banishing all the Sunnydale weirdness from the play." I was going with something pretty general, protection from evil sort of thing. "Feeling energetic, I hope?"

"Yep, I'm ready to go." I shrug my jacket off and put it and my purse on the end of the couch. "I'm always anxious to fool around with magic, pretty much anytime. No such thing as too much practice, you know."

I smile at her enthusiasm. That's what I always liked best about her, back in high school. Well, that and the freaky power she seemed to possess, like she didn't have to work at it like I did.

I start channeling energy and cast the circle, invoking the four elements. Amy being there gives the energy an oomph that I never get by myself. When I feel it swirling nicely around us, I light the candle and the incense. Then I pick up a nice peice of obsidian that I've had for ages and wrap it with copper wire.

"Basic purification ritual," I tell Amy. "Banish all the badness."

"Please no flying monkeys! How awful would that be?" I get up and stretch as well. "Anytime. All you have to do is call." I smile at her. "We should go for drinks again soon."

"Yes, let's!" I say. "You need to introduce me to that man of yours sometime. And I should have a little more free time once the auditions are completely done."

I step toward the kitchen. "You want a beer or soda or something? Magic always makes me thirsty."

"Sure, a Coke would be nice before I hit the road. Jon wanted to go to the movies later on."

I follow her in.

I stick my head into the fridge and locate a couple of sodas for us. I find glasses and plop a few ice cubes in each of them. "So this Jon--anyone I might know?"

"Yeah, we haven't really worked on magic together very much lately. We should get back into the habit, I guess." I smile at her. "We could all have dinner together sometime soon. That could be fun."

"That would be great. I kind of need to get a life beyond just work." It had really taken over all my free time since coming back...and that was maybe another good reason to get back into magic more regularly. For the social aspects. "I'm afraid I've turned into something of a workaholic. This was really nice tonight, working with you on the magicks again."

"No guys in the picture then?" I ask. That's surprising. Heather seems like the type who could get dates fairly easily.

"Yeah, it was awesome. I hope it works out and the play goes well. I can't imagine being responsible for something like that!"

"No guys for a while," I say, with touch of chagrin. "Well, at least no guys who didn't want to sleep with me as a condition of employment."

I finish my soda and say, "I'll be happy if it's not a complete disaster!" Of course, that wasn't true at all, otherwise I'd never have done the second spell. Which I knew wasn't totally kosher, since doing a spell on all those kids was...well, a big no-no according to the Wiccan Rede. But it's not like I was doing it for anything they didn't want themselves. Success, a great production.
