I have never been much into politics, much less paid attention to American politics but I have to wonder why the Republicans and some Americans are against this healthcare reform?

One Republican in a BBC report said that this bill was against the constitution, which puzzles me, because health care is a basic human right.

Coming from a country where the western civilisation patronisingly calls "Third World" (Malaysia) we at least have healthcare coverage for all and every. They black list us for being in "violation of human rights" when they can't even promise that their people can get medical help when they fall sick.

I just don't understand why they are so against this.

Never underestimate the stupidity of some of my fellow Americans. The knee-jerk things they spew just boggle the mind sometimes. Personally I'm just waiting for that segment to die off so that more enlightened policy may prevail...but I'm probably getting my hopes up too high.

From what I can tell, there are some sane, intelligent conservatives (ie., Republicans) have genuine concerns about the health care bill like how much it's going to cost. Then there's the majority of the conservative right-wing nut-jobs who are convinced that government-run healthcare = SOCIALISM COMMUNISM DICTATORSHIP I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT THESE TERMS MEAN BUT THEY SOUND SCARY OMG END OF THE WORLD!!!111eleventy.

One Republican in a BBC report said that this bill was against the constitution, which puzzles me, because health care is a basic human right. Not being an American I can't say I know their Constitution in detail, but what I've gathered is that the Republicans are apparently the party of small government, "the government that governs least governs best", meaning the government should do as little as possible to interfere in the lives of its citizens and the more things that are privatised the better ( ... )
