Finished the fun part of the highline extension today. Cutting a magillion I-beams and
H-Columns...fuuuun stuff. The good thing about this configuration is that by glueing the gussets on at the same time as the H-Columns it's fairly easy to keep the H-Columns true and straight over long repetitive distances.

Oh but you thought that was it. Today I finally packed away the EAF module leaving the blast furnace section the last remaining of the project. The EAf never went in the direction I liked sorat like the coke ovens so to the shelf and boxes they go. Now, in packing away the EAF I tool out two things I applied to the blast furnace module. Ok so the time has finally come to work on the highline extension. So far I have boxed out the main deck section and am letting it set. On this I have to still had more parallel beams for the tracks. I'm looking foward to completing this one because frankly they are a pain in the butt to build.

So I was reading an issue in National Geographic yesterday about gasification plants. One image showed a large smokestack just like the one I had just detailed but it had a white ring at the top. You know as soon as I got home I taped that bad boy up and busted out the white primer.

It's been how many years and I'm still moving buildings around? Basically I needed a good use for my new CMW taxi cabs and what not a better way than to have them by an office. The blast furnace office that is. It consists of a kitbash I did on a Walthers Machine Shop kit and some Cornerstone Modulars to form the annex. I also worked on some piping ( Read more... )

Did some work on the powerplant including painting the stack, detailing out the cooling towers and some piping details. I need to find some sort of fans for the cooling tower tops and add some piping to those as well. Then those are pretty much complete and ready for paint.

Here's one I did for someone..and actually I like it better than my original. LOL. The main thing to point out was the use of Tichy Windows to fill in the openings from the Glacial Gravel kit which fit nicely for that added detail. The truck loader on the left is from a N New River Mining kit and the tall receiver on the right is from an HO scale ( Read more... )

Well the time has come to complete the last 3 foot section of phase 1 highline. That being the first 9 feet of it. As a refresher the original 6 foot section of the highline was built half from the kit provided parts and then doubled in length via scratch building.
