Terri Schiavo had been on life support for fifteen long years. Her husband went to school to become a nurse and respiratory therapist in that time. He also found another woman to spend his life with, and had kids

i'm with kay on this one (along with the GWB loving and Yanks), the press made it look like her husband was completely careless and hated her, when it was really her parents being assholes. i think they just wanted to emphasize the fact that he got himself a new family while she was vegitizing in the hospital. He was still married, which yes, is bad. he should have at least gotten a divorce... anyway, i'm glad she's finally dead, no more of this retardation on tv. i hope no one would make me public if i somehow got that way. yes, let’s have the whole world watch me drool all over my chin and hit myself in the face while we argue if i should live or die. while im at it, im glad pope john paul bit the dust too. yes, i just said that.
The press is composed of a bunch of profit hounding douchebags. He did a lot for her, and anyone would have given up after eight years, nevermind fifteen.
John Paul did bite the dust. I hope the Devil finds you tonight.
Michaela, on the whole, Terri thing, I totally agree with you, 100% darling! If anything like that ever happens to me...PULL THE GODDAMN TUBE!!!! ~Lexi
Will do Lexi. Actually, now doctors are shoving pamphlets concerning that idea whenever you have an appointment. Well, not kids and teens, but adults. Kinda scary, but good.
i think it kind of sucks for the parents, and they probably should have had some say in the matter but they didn't so tough. How could they want their daughter to be like that? all she could feel was pain and couldn't even think about happy things to help take her mind off of it. I definately think it was good the plug was pulled because if she lived like that for 15 years who knows how long she could have kept living like that? What is the point of spending all that money on someone who is as good as dead anyway? and people who are all pro-life and stuff, there is also a problem with the popultaion. It's huge and continues to grow! doesnt that help solve that problem if you dont have people who are basically dead filling up your hospitals. Not to mention ABORTION but no, that would be WRONG!!
Abortions are alright to an extent. They can tell if you're pregnant a month in, and THAT is when the abortion should happen, as soon as you know you want it. Too many people try to have on after that point, and I personally think that's murder. When the fetus becomes something that's almost cute, its murder. When it looks like a mass of tissue that kind of resembles a human... take it out.
Maybe we should have strict child laws like the Chinese. That'd be cool. Then we could send one of my brothers to an infertile mother. Or maybe we should eat babies like Jonathan Swift proposed.
yeah i understand the viewpiont about the babies not being aborted after a certain point. But i think in some instances that it would be ok at that point. really it should be up to the woman and her doctor and the government shouldn't be involved in it.
true true. especially if the girl is unable to care for a baby. I know this is really controversial, but I think being able to detect whether a baby is going to have downs is good. If the child is going to live a horrible life because a parent doesn't have the patience, it would be better just to abort it.
If getting pregnant was the mother's fault, then she should not be allowed to have an abortion.
Two words: Increase [in] Poverty. Sometimes condoms fail as well. That would not be her fault.
The Pope... I was watching the news, and there were a TON of protesters with picket signs reading "THE POPE IS A BIGGOT" and such. What a wonderful way to die, huh? If people were going to make a deal out of it, they should have done it before there were headlines in every paper saying the "Pope might die tonight". There's not too much the Pope can do about changes his morals right before he's about to die. Great thinking, you inconsiderate assholes.
I agree that condoms fail. However, if getting pregnant was such a big deal to you, you'd be more careful. Period. I'm sorry, but that's the side I'm arguing right now, and I'm going to stick to it. You should know by now that devil's advocate is my favorite game
( ... )
If a teen becomes pregnant, then she probably has not seen her gynecologist, like every teen is instructed to when they become sexually active, but should still be allowed an abortion. They should be required by law to take some kind of abstinence course, or be given a sex toy, but they should be allowed to have an abortion if they desire. Not only will a baby be a threat to her welfare, but a threat to society (increase in poverty, as discussed earlier

You say she was the ant, but that would require the assumption that the "soul" rests in the brain. Where do you think it exists, if there is one? Or, are you more a believer in the naturalist vein of things, that there is no "soul" and that the only thing that sets us apart from apes is a little extra brain mass and evolutionary traits? :p
Agreed with the last part. This isn't about playing god, because we were playing god whether we pulled the plug or not.
The spiritual nature of humans, regarded as immortal, separable from the body at death, and susceptible to happiness or misery in a future state.
So according the the dictionary, we were keeping Terri's soul trapped in her body by shoving that tube in her. I personally have no belief in a soul that carries on. I could see that it could be a mass of just energy released from the body. I am a partial believer of reincarnation - The energy which keeps your body alive can't just disappear. It has to go somewhere whether it be heat, a sound, another life form, etc... Whatever happens after death is such an abstract issue though...

I don't see how anyone could THINK about saying pulling the tube is playing God. If she had been in a natural enviorment, she'd be long gone.
