Spring says no dead bodies burried under my lawn

Apr 04, 2009 16:42

So today I took some time off from work to have a little cosplay fun. I wrestled with a wig for a new costume, pinned to a wighead, then did what I usually do: put it on and take a lot of photos. Why? Because I can't see the flaws as well in the mirror ( Read more... )

First thing that came to mind when I saw that was Durand from L'chevalier D'eon, but I have no idea how long that's been out XD

Uuuugh you remind me, though, that I need to get started on my shit for Otakon. Uuuugh. :( Armorrrrr. Any suggestions to get in the mood?

That's what I thought people would say... it's actually a bit tricky because the hair/eye color isn't the same in the anime and the manga and I picked the less known manga version. ;) On the bright side, the wig could definitely do double duty if I tossed someone else into Lia...

What are you making for Otakon?
And why can't I manage to keep in the loop? I'm such a failure at LJ.

As for getting in the mood I've been trying to FOR MONTHS. So I'm not a good person to ask, I've been horribly unmotivated to get anything done, even with a horrible deadline of end-of-June looming. I think I won't sleep a wink in June as I panic to put this monster together.

Speaking of out of the loop, that was like the last thing I watched, just because. So I have no idea what anything is any more. XD

I haven't updated much to be honest, either. I've become an LJ hermit -- I need to find something to update about, so I join you in LJ failure. I'm doing Sylvanas from WoW (in theory) since they finally gave her her own damn model... and Blizzard has no idea how to design armor, so it's one of those things where you really have to sit down and figure out the logistics of it all. That, and I hate the damn skulls on the shoulders.

Maybe the crunch is what I need to get motivated. That's usually the way things are for me, and they get done. When I start early for some reason I hem and haw and never get ANYTHING done. Procrastinators unite!

It's the last thing I watched too! lol I think the loop gave up on me a long time ago.

I love the overall look but do I ever have to agree with you on the skulls... they are really ridonculous. Will you actually bodypaint yourself blue? I've always had this fear of any sort of bodypaint due to 1- seeing someone get covered in liqui latex and seeing how awful it was to remove and 2- imagining it rubbing off all over my costume. *shudder*

I think I need the crunch, just like I started my thesis 2 months before I had to defend it, I can't get the motivation to work on something unless I feel the cold embrace of IMMINENT FAILURE.

If we weren't such procrastinators I bet you and I would rule the world by now. ;)

And it's too bad you're not in MD anymore or I'd have said: let's have a weekend of cosplay boot camp! *cracks whip*

I do the photo thing too; lol so true, the mirror is such a liar!

that's a wig!? Looks amazing! But yeah, the only thing I can think of looking at it is Yohji, or Durand like mentioned above.

My mirror and I have deep seated issues! I like how that is version #3 of the wig... I kept on seeing problems, but only once I took photos of it. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has to use her camera to get an honest opinion!

And it's not Yohji or Durand... but at least it seems I'll be able to reuse that wig! ;)

I think it wasn't until I started cosplaying and saw a lot of photos of myself from many (mostly not flattering) angles that I realized how bad some of my costumes were when I wasn't looking at them straight on in a mirror (as well as how horrendously unphotogenic I was--taking static pictures with relatives is one thing, cosplay photos had something entirely new to say and it was pretty blunt) But I'm much happier knowing, being half the battle and all! I think my costumes and wigs are certainly better thanks to my dear friend the camera, and even my photogenicity (made-up-word lol) is improving~

I'm so stumped!! But yay, reusable wigs are excellent (especially such a nice looking one as that)~ I have too many wigs that only see the light of day like once, or worse, not at all.

I think most of us poor mortals are unphotogenic, unfortunately!
So it's always a lot of work to get a good photograph. But it really helps if you know the angle that consistently gets a decent photo! lol

I bet everyone is stumped because when I resize photos in PS I have auto-adjust lighting on, and it went to town. But now that I look at it, I still think I need to bite the bullet and make it darker. I really hate what dark wigs do to my face though (see: not photogenic lol).

And I know what you mean about wigs never seeing the light of day! I keep on telling myself I should set up trades to get rid of the wigs I bought and never or almost never used. All they do is take space and gather dust!

Yay Durand!

AND you're giving yourself more than a week to do it... how clever! :D

lol It's not Durand... I think I should have given up on manga canon and gotten a black wig.

It's still not too late to dye it! ;)

You were crazy with that last minute sewing binge, I don't know how you did it!

btw you're a better Durand than I could ever be, I don't think I even want to TRY. <3

Dare I ask why a dead body under the cherry trees would affect the color of the blossoms? Is this some sort of weird Yankee superstition or French thing? ^_~

I assume you've never read Clamp?
The theory in Tokyo Babylon/X is that the cherry trees are pink because they FEED ON THE BLOOD of the dead bodies the Sakurazukamori (an assassin) brings to it.

Oh. Oh my. No, I've never read Clamp...I guess I'm more out of the loop than I realized. Carniverous cherry trees. In Maryland. Who knew?

I cannot say enough about the lasik surgery I had five years ago. The technology had finally gotten good enough that I could correct my vision with any side effects, not even the occasional halos some people could see around lights at night.

I had worn glasses since I was in 7th grade and occasionally wore contacts, but it really IS a complete different world to not need them and see better than 20/20. The most surprising thing was the explosion of color with the details that came with it. I spent a month standing outside my house looking at the river and the mountain behind it. It never got old. Getting the proceedure done was the best decision I have made in my life.

You don't undertake a cosplay unless you are going to hit it out of the park. Can't wait to see more!

You know, I'm afraid of lasik, mostly because I heard that you're conscious and you see it happening... I don't want to hear or see my eye being cut with a scalpel! And what if they mess up?

*basketcase about lasik*

Although to be honest, I'd be SO HAPPY to SEE.

Hearing you talk about the results, though, is really inspiring.
But... FEAR. D:

Surgery is a subjective term with what is done. These days it is all done by machine ( ... )

I started reading up on all that can go wrong and night vision and dry eye (I think my eyes are naturally dry so I might not even be a viable candidate)...

AND THIS IS ME RIGHT NOW:
