I've been pretty out and about this week...Wednesday I went out to dinner at Sapporo w/ Japanese Club. Thursday I went on a field trip to Castleton Mall w/ my Mass Media class and had lunch at Burger King; I had a madrigal concert that evening and went out to eat at O'Charley's w/ Meghan and Nikki. Friday I went to see King Lear at the IRT w/ ( Read more... )

Sometimes coming off a caffeine high will do that to you. I'm sure you would know if that's what happened but that's all I can think of, unless there were some sketchy substances in your coke at the japanese restaurant. Result of a misunderstanding of course. Damn those Asians and their non english speaking abilities. jk. Hope you fell better.

Lol. Thanks.
Hey, I heard your dad talk tonight at C&E. I thought his comments about healthy family life were interesting. ^_^ I couldn't help but wonder how he related that to his own life.

Why have you stopped posting? Your name suggests that by telling your story, you may change a person's life. Do you believe a person can be changed by merely hearing a story? Do you believe your story can change someone? Or are you just writing as an outlet for yourself? Just curious because of the name choice. Hope you write again soon...

My hiatus in posts is probably due to a combination of homework, church, drama practice and my recent discovery of facebook. Believe me, my e-mail has suffered similar neglect...
I do believe that people can be changed by stories; I think that is one of the greatest purposes of art.
Pray, may I inquire as to your identity, kind sir or madam?

You can inquire, but I'd rather not say. (don't worry, I'm not some psycho, although I guess I have no way to prove that) Any literature/art/music, etc. that has changed you lately? I know we often read stuff (I say read because that's the only "art" form that I attend to regularly) that is inspiring, however I haven't found something that can actually change a person in a long time. Can't really think of one, now that I think about it.

In terms of literature that has changed me, I suppose I would say the The Chronicles of Narnia changed me. To Kill a Mockingbird had that effect on me as well as A Wrinkle in Time, Lord of the Rings, Reading Lolita in Tehran, and I would recommend Life of Pi, which I actually haven't gotten too terribly far in. If those don't work, the Bible's always a safe bet. Lol. ^_^

Hmm...So you're saying that "The Chronicles of Narnia" literally changed you? How so? I agree that it is great literature, but I'd be interested to hear how it actually changed you. And I'm talking about real change here. Not just "it really turned me on to C.S. Lewis" type stuff. And I'm not asking because I disagree with you, it's just that I've never had that experience, so I'm interested in those who have. Sorry if I'm pressing the point.

I would say that The Chronicles of Narnia changed how I view heaven and hell...and in that sense, how I view the meaning of my life. In The Last Battle, there's this allegory of these dwarves who have been living in Narnia their whole lives, but they swear they're in a dark barn eating slop. They can't see the paradise they're really in because they have convinced themselves otherwise. I think it's an important analogy about life...hell is a state of mind, I think.
I find similar instances when Aslan speaks in The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe and also The Silver Chair. Lucy's innocent nature makes me see the value of being childlike...etc. It seems paltry for me to attempt to explain how I feel about literature when it is what it is because it moves me. Forgive my feeble descriptions.
