social networks for scientists

Hi everyone!
Could someone please help me?
I`m searching for scientific social networks or specific sites, where scientists can communicate, co-operate in teams and provide rent of equipment (or this option is usually realized on sites of certain equipment ( Read more... )

Well, there's the researchgate-network. Not sure if that is waht you are searching for, but it is the only thing I know about which goes into the direktion...

well, not exactly a social networking website and they are mostly geared to engineering rather than biology, but in the bay area (ca) at least there are several hacker-spaces where you have something not unlike a gym membership and go use shared equipment/network with other scientists/geeks/hobbiests/evil geniuses etc. Some examples in my area are TechShop, Robot Garden, Hacker Dojo... There was a biology specific one, BioCurious, but I'm not sure if it's open anymore :(. One thing to do is look for your local Maker Faire, there are generally similarly minded folks looking for much the same thing you descibed :) good luck!

I've heard that Twitter is useful for science conversations.

Mendeley might be useful for collaboration/finding scientists with common research interests.
Scientists Without Borders seemed neat when it started, I don't know if it has taken off.
