A friend and I were walking through the 2-28 Peace Park today, and this random old guy starts talking to us. He noticed we were speaking English, so at first he just asked me to translate the words Japanese, Japan, China, and Chinese. After the program ended, a group of us decided to take a two-day trip to 花蓮 (Hualien) and 太魯閣 (Taroko Gorge). After a 5AM (!) wake-up call, we took a three-hour train ride, arriving at the Hualien train station. There, we met our taxi drivers/tour guides for our two days. The second night of the graduation trip, we stayed at a hotel that was pretty close to a go-kart track. So we decided to go. And oh man, was it fun! The gas-powered go-karts went pretty damn fast, and for the equivalent of $3.30USD, definitely worth the money. I had a ton of fun, mainly because of my attempts to drift around corners. Tomorrow is Duan Wu Jie (Dragon Boat Festival), so there are celebrations all weekend. We just came back from a river, where they were holding dragon boat races.
