Following in the vein of me doing stupid things today, I spent the evening at Middlemore under care of the hand surgeons, after managing to stab myself with a kitchen knife while trying to get a stubborn stone out of an avocado. Tomorrow I go in for surgery, since my hands are my livelihood, and they think I may have damaged at least one of the

Actually, what worries me is that it DOESN'T hurt... and I can't feel my ring finger.

This is not good. Hope it works out O.K. I have nearly done that to mysef on too many ocassions. Now I use my sister's method, with the avacado lying on the bench and one hand clearly out of the way, take a big knife and swing it from high above and bury it part way in to the stone, like with some conviction. Then hold the avacado with your other hand and twist the knife, the stone will come out attached to the knife.
