You can TOTALLY DO 12k! *\0/* (I am a little too drunk atm to decide if that was a request for encouragement or not, but I AM GIVING IT TO YOU ANYWAY, given that I'm currently at 27k on my MA thesis and have been told multiple times that "It's a little on the short side." upper limit! HARD upper limit - if you run over by more than 10% they penalise you. i think the ironbridge institute are very into brevity (dude) - they are super-strict about papers too, 4000 words, +/- 10%, and they prefer you are as close to perfect as possible. on the other hand, they really, really love appendices. my appendices have to date been pretty epic.
