Getting Carly to the party wasn't as hard as I'd originally thought it would be. It turned out she was willing to go -- grudgingly, but willing. Since Sam was coming straight from work, I'd taken the liberties of picking Carly up and taking her to the party myself. Driving her home would be another issue entirely. I planned on getting myself stone drunk. Jake would have to cart my drunk ass home later.
"See? This isn't so bad," I told her, trying to be optomistic as we walked through the front door. Madsen and Arianna were already at the bar, and Jake was behind it, already passing out beers. Aw. Sweet alcohol. I love having a bartender for a brother.
Figures I couldn't get a day off the day of my party, and two days before I'm supposed to leave for the Bahamas. Madsen and Arianna, who were getting scarily good as friends, had given me four shades of hell over the whole thing.
But, I'm here. And I've got the next two days off after I did some sucking up to my boss and a good last shoot before I leave. It's amazing what you can do when you suck up just a little bit. Like I assume Jake probably had to do to get this going.
Jake. Yeah, I couldn't be less happy about him staying around my house for the week, but I'm trying to get past it. I've been told a million and a half times that this is supposed to be about having fun, so I'm going to try and do that.
Even though I'll be surprised if Carly even talks to me. The silent treatment... I hate that. So much.
I got out of the car, and looked just in time to see Alex and Carly heading in. I caught up to hear Alex talking.
"Shall we go say hi to Jake?""Yeah, let's do that." Come on, be nice, be nice be nice be nice... "Hey." I smiled
( ... )
I was about to agree to go say hello to one of the few men that I'm still getting along with, when Sam snuck up behind us. And he'd probably say that he just caught up, or picked up his pace, but I think there was some serious stealth involved. He probably wanted to catch me off guard.
"Yeah, let's do that."
He probably just wants to warn Jake not to try anything while he's gone. I'm surprised he hasn't hinted around to me about how faithful he plans on being, just so that I don't go off the deep end and have sex with the first attractive guy I see.
Oh, look. Jake's the first attractive guy I see. Wonder what he'd think of that.
"Hey. Thanks for coming. Seriously."I turned my face when he went to kiss me, and took a step back. Showing up is one thing, accepting this is another. I can show up, but I can't be alright with this. I'm not celebrating anything
( ... )
Madsen and Arianna weren't there ten minutes before they started drinking. Can't say I minded too much. My boss was more than happy to give us the space, time, and liquor it would take to keep this party moving, as long as it brought some money in for him. If Madsen and Arianna kept things going at this pace, things would be just fine. I knew I could count on my sister to help out with that, too.
I was grabbing a plain old bottle of Molson for myself when I looked up to see Alex and Carly walk in together. Sam was right behind them. I thought he was coming late? I'd been hoping to at least say hi to Carly before he got here, but now I knew I wouldn't be talking to her at all. He'd make sure of that.
He doesn't even want the two of us to be friends. Carly and I are great friends, nothing more -- much to my chagrin. Why can't he let it be?
"She's right guys, tonight is celebrating, even if you think the whole thing is screwed. Then you just celebrate anyway, because it's about gettin' drunk as hell! Who wants to dance?"
Hey, some of us can't get drunk as hell, or we'll face hell and thensome in the morning, thanks. Madsen seems to quickly forget who's the ex-drunk around here. The ex drunk who's just recieved a serious burn from the girlfriend who hates him.
Who was kind enough to give our good bartender a kiss on the cheek. Isn't that a special moment.
"Yeah." I muttered, taking the virgin margarita and feeling like more of a loser because lucky Sam will be the only one not drinking this fine night.
"Thanks Jake." I tried as hard as I could to actually mean that. I'll be nice to the guy, if not just for tonight. "And thanks for getting the bar too." ... That was harder to get out than I thought it'd be.
"Let me have a few more of these, then we'll see,"She shouldn't say that. Too bad I can't warn her I happen to know that Madsen considers her very hot damaged
( ... )
My brother looks like a kicked puppy, but Dan's here. And he looks good as usual, and I want I want I want I want...
But I can't have. Get a grip Arianna while there's still time to do that. Not on him, don't think that way. You're not supposed to think that way, so you need to think about getting a grip on..
STOP THINKING THAT WAY!
I need another drink. I got one from the other bartender who looked sort of stupidly okay with everything. That's sort of sad, when you see guys like that. It means they get walked all over really easy.
After downing my drink, I threw myself out there, and sort of felt like doing literally. "I'll dance."
I'm sad, but even when I should be, I'm not completely heartless. Sam looked pouty while he was sipping his margarita, and at first, I figured he was just pissed off that Jake was getting more attention out of me than he was. Jake was spending the week with me while Sam was going far away, he deserved it. Besides, people tend to pay less attention to Jake and take him foregranted, and that's dumb. Jake's one of the sweetest guys I know.
Maybe I should hook him up with Arianna.
I downed my drink in record time, figuring that if I went through mine quickly, Sam wouldn't notice me with a glass as much, and he'd stop being a big baby over the whole thing. I'm the one who was dragged here. The party is for Sam, and he looks the most depressed out of any of them, not counting me. I ordered one more, finished it off, and turned my attention back to Sam
( ... )
Alex and Madsen seem to be lessening the alcohol supply. I wonder if there will be any left when later rolls around and I want a beer.
"I'll dance."
Holy shit, I feel like Eve. And if I'm her, there's an apple in front of me and a serpent close by. Madsen could probably care less about dancing with Arianna, he'd have a better night hitting on the women here who he doesn't know. Arianna's Sam's little sister. Aside from being too young for him, she's off limits because of her relation to Sam. She's off limits to me because of her relation to Carly.
I don't think dancing is considered a limit. I think it's a general activity.
It's different.
"Dance with me." I grinned, half expecting to get rejected. "Madsen seems more interested in his drink than getting up and doing something."
I looked up from my drink to find Madsen standing over me. Made sense, I guess. Carly and Sam were out the door, and Dan and Arianna were dancing. I was the only person left to talk to, and the fact that I was drinking heavily and wearing an uncharacteristic top that didn't leave much to the imagination were probably Madsen's big motivators.
"For what? Dancing?" I'd mentioned it in passing, I didn't think he'd take me seriously. I smirked and glanced back at my nearly empty glass. "I'm getting there. Usually it takes me a little more, but I think they're slipping gasoline into the drinks or something."
I shrugged and finished up the last of my drink, which was my third Russian. I was done with mixed drinks for the evening, it all tasted the same at this point. Kip had already bought me a beer and set it down next to the glass I'd been drinking from, so I didn't hesitate in moving on to the next drink and leaning against the bar, mirroring Madsen.
Well, that's it. Looks like I'm my own party for awhile. Carly and Sam had left the bar completely, and I'd been Carly's "boyfriend" long enough to know what that meant. Sam was about to get very, very lucky. Carly didn't really have any reservations about keeping sex in the bedroom. With her, it was wherever, whenever. I always liked that spontanaeity, though it's not the only thing I liked about her
( ... )
"I am completely perfect right now, what about you?"
She's completely perfect? I could have told her that.
"I'm good."
'Completely perfect' is pretty damn good. I've never heard anyone refer to their feelings like that, though it's a simple way of summarizing my own attitude right now. Although, if I was going to be entirely honest, I'd admit that I'm almost completely perfect. Not only is Arianna completely perfect, she's almost completely drunk. It's hard to tell if she likes me, or if she likes alcohol, and her liking me is the result of too much of something alcoholic that she likes.
But I'll take this.
I let her stay on her feet for two more songs. I would have kept going, but I didn't want the gorgeous drunk to take a spill and embarrass herself.
"I think we should sit down."
I led Arianna over to a stool and held her hand to help her keep her balance while she sat down.
"Do you want anything?"
Black coffee, water, something solid? I'll get her anything but more alcohol.
"I dance." Dude, what makes her think I don't? Is it a look or something? "I totally dance, completely." I'm a little drunk right now, but still, I dance!
I looked over, getting myself another beer and drank it down, better lay off the JD just for a little bit if I'm going to talk Alex into dancing. And since Carly's not in the room to ruin it all with her Snowflakeyness, I can get away with at least trying.
Dude, how great is that plan.
I looked over at Dan and Arianna and grinned. "Someone's gettin' laid tonight." Arianna's totally going to make a move if she gets anymore drinks in her.
Now let's just not let Sammy and Dan be the only lucky boys.
"Nope. I just like this stuff. A lot." I like a lot of things right now... but I like Dan the most. I happen to like Dan lots, even when I'm not drinking. He's less fun when I'm drinking though, what does he think, I'm going to hurt myself?
I'm not going to hurtmyself. Everything's too spinny, but I'm not going to hurt myself. I'll be just fine. Me and my Smirnoff.
Oh wait, I finished it. Whoops.
Ha, this is fun.
"Don't rush so much. We have all night."
"We do, don't we?" I grinned. "All night. Hm. I wonder how we could kill time all night..." Sure, I have a few ideas. Or twenty. Oh that would be more fun than drinking.
Carly and Sam were back. Arianna was drinking again. My sister was dancing with Mr. Skate Park.
Looked like everyone was having a great time. As well they should. This was supposed to be a party, wasn't it? Even Sam seemed to be getting into the spirit of things. Had to be hard not to after the pick-me-up Carly had just given him outside.
I'd already finished off my beer and started on a cranberry Smirnoff. I didn't plan on drinking heavily, since I had to drive home later. Aside from Sam and Dan, it looked like I would be the only one doing any driving tonight. Everyone else was well past tipsy.
"I need to make up for lost time. Give me three of the strongest thing you have."
"You're really going all out..."Kip was already working on getting Carly her drinks. I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen Carly drinking this heavily. She really wasn't happy about Sam leaving
( ... )
I saw Carly and Sam sitting down at the bar as Madsen and I hit the dance floor. Man, I was really going to hear about this later on... Carly probably hadn't spotted me yet, but I guessed that the moment she did, she would freak out. That alone should have made me change my mind and head back to the bar, but I didn't. It had been awhile since I'd danced with anyone. I was never really big on the bar or club scenes. Besides, dancing never hurt anyone. The fact that it was with someone cute made it even more painless. Madsen wasn't always the brightest crayon in the box, but he was definitely cute. Hot, even. I could deal with that.
Ugh, fast music. Hope I don't lose my balance and fall over. At least I could still see straight and talk fine.
I put an arm around Madsen's waist and started moving in time to the music, pleasantly surprised when I found that my motor skills were still fully intact. Good. I smirked up at him and took half a step forward.
"I like it, too. I want to buy it someday. The guy who owns it now doesn't really care about it too much."
Jake could own a bar. I bet he'd be the best bar owner in the whole world. The guy who owns it now is mean. I think. Jake makes him sound mean. Anyone who doesn't care about their bar is mean. Bar cruelty. It's just...not cool. And that's why Jake should have it. He cares! Bars need love so that they can grow.
He's handsome to look at.
"You should buy it. Oh! I know. I could beat up the owner and make him give it to you! You wouldn't have to buy it."
I giggled and took another sip of my..whatever the hell it was, it burned. But I'm used to things burning. Both my boyfriend, and my daughter are pyrokenetics. I'm the only one who got left out with no really cool power. I'm just strong. And pretty.
"All set."Sam's back. My Sam. The boyfriend. He doesn't like Jake, but we just had sex. Sam and I did. He should like him now because he was the one having sex with me, not Jake. If I didn't hate being involved with people so much
( ... )
"Depends on where I'm going. So where am I going?"
Okay, I can take her back to her apartment. I'll have to ask Sam where it is before we leave, but I think she'll be alright there. By the time I get her home, Arianna will be too tired to do anything but sleep.
And now she's on top of me.
"Sorry."
"It's okay."
I caught Arianna around the waist and let her support herself against me. By most of my usual standards, this is a weird night. When I stay in, nothing happens. When I go out, generally I stay away from the people who are too drunk to stand on their own.
But I don't mind this.
"So, where? Come on, come on, I'm bored, let's go, come on."
"We'll go to your apartment." I sighed when she made a face about that. Arianna had other things in mind. Most of it, I couldn't follow through with, no matter how much I might have wanted to. "Or mine. Do you want to see my apartment?"
Tom will stop worrying about me being gay if he sees her walk in.
"Another one of those." Virgin margaritas, I'll just keep wishing they were real. This sucks so much, but I think I can deal with it. I haven't had a drink in so long, that I don't really need one in the long run.
"Sam's not allowed to drink. No alcohol for him. But I'll have another one of these things. And then we can talk about beating this guy up."
Thank you for stating the obvious.
This would be one of those points where it sucks, not being drunk. But I'm not the only sober one in the bar yet, Jake still looks okay. And no, I'm not really comforted by Jake being sober, because all I can see is him saying the wrong thing to a way suggestable Carly, and then it's all over.
I'm paranoid, but practical. Leave me alone.
"Beating what guy up?" I might as well ask.
"Sam, I think Jake is the best bartender ever."
"... That's nice..." Just kill me. "I'm sure he is."
Well if she's not, I'm not going to be. The hot chick always gets the winning opinion, no matter what. "Alright." Because it's always better not to argue with a hot drunk chick.
"It's a party, right? We're supposed to be enjoying ourselves."
"Definitely. That is completely the point." Good to see someone gets it, I was starting to think me and Arianna's big plan to have fun was going to be totally screwed. And dude, that would be so not cool.
"Come on, keep dancing. You're even hotter when you dance."
I grinned. "Whatever you say." It switched to a faster song. And shit, here comes the tilt a whirl. She better not want to dance much longer, 'cause dude, I really can't keep this up for long.
