Time Passage

[voice]
[Lucas's voice is quiet, subdued.  Indistinct.  He isn't speaking to anyone in particular more than he is speaking to himself.]

It looks like she got what she wanted.  ...He never would have let her go.  Not like this.  I wonder... who helped her.  ...I wonder if she could have believed that we might have helped her.  But, I guess... she ( Read more... )

Thanks.

I don't know if there are rules about this kind of thing, but I was thinking... the park is probably as nice as any place.

....Part of my job at home is looking after the dead.

The park sounds like a good place. Somewhere secluded.

You sound very young to be a gravekeeper... Will you be able to pick out a good spot, then?

....so this is a simulation? ....if it was Braun's though...how could-

[No never mind she could dwell on that later.]

...Has anyone found the fail-safe yet? There was one in the simulation I was trapped in before.

I... I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean a way to shut it off from the inside? If there is one, it'll probably be in the one of the place we can't get to. City Hall, the police station, the dairy...

Yeah. The one for Tranquillity lane was in an abandoned house with a puzzle lock on it. I haven't found one of those here yet though.

Tranquility Lane...

But if you've got experience with this kind of thing, that will definitely be of help. Were there any other... weaknesses or anything we should watch out for that you know of?

Lucas...

That's... Um. I-I can help you if you need it.

Thanks, Crowe.

...I was thinking we might have a small memorial service, too, but... I don't know if that's doable.

Maybe. Ah, i-it makes me wonder what will happen next, yeah? Will she come back as a drone? Will she just be gone, the spot in the house empty...?

...They might replace her like they did with Mr. Smith. But I'm not sure... I think, this time, someone on their side must have helped her get what she wanted.

[Why is he bothering to answer this? At all. It's not like this conversation will go any better then the ones they've had before.]

...If you really care that much, there's a pretty secluded area of the park I know. It'd at least make sure her body was left in peace, I guess.

We're going to need to find out if we're just trapped in the simulation, or if we're part of the simulation.

[Lucas is quiet for a moment before responding. Seeing Samantha sitting in the park so peacefully had brought back certain memories to mind.]

Thanks, Pokey.

It would make more sense if it was that, wouldn't it? That we all come from different worlds and things like that... But, then, he could just make us all be obedient to him if we were completely fake, too, couldn't he?

...I don't know.

From what it looks like to me, he could drone most people here at any time. Sometimes he does, with those of us that get droned permanently. Maybe there's a point to letting us have free will for a time. Like...fine tuning us to the simulation after we're first put in.

We might be. But it seems overly complex. I just get the feeling there's another part to the trick. That's the good way to run a con: to make something that's simple when you finally get an explanation seem oddly difficult to understand beforehand, or can lead to a false conclusion. That's how you make suckers of others.

I've always felt like there had to be a point. He was just making fun of us on April Fool's with that stuff about the souls, but even so... It could still be something along those lines.

You're probably right, though. I'm not very good at being clever.

I wasn't sure before, either, but it just means it's... fake. Like we're really somewhere else and all of this is in our heads.

They saved us from the Communist town to bring us back to their own town, right? There might be a lot of these fake towns all over this world.
