And as suddenly as the mushrooms had first appeared, they vanish again.  Every single one.  Across town, there is no trace of the poison that had sent so many people spiraling into uncontrollable nightmares.  Those caught in the grips of hallucination will find themselves instantly cured, no matter what they were in the middle of seeing.  Once more ( Read more... )

[He'd managed to sleep off the delusions, but the visions had scared him - all made of things he had been dreading for months, even sweeps, coming back to haunt his subconscious.

It had been hard hauling himself out of his room, but he'd finally managed to shuffle over to Lucas' - he doesn't really say anything at first, just sitting down as close to his friend as possible.]

[Lucas glances up as he hears someone approach. He smiles, wearily, encouragingly. But he somehow can't bring himself to say anything at first, either. As he scootches to give Tavros more room, he will silently pour him an extra-large cup of the coffee.]

...I'm sorry.

[He smiles back, though it is very long-lived, before eyeballing the coffee.]

I do not think, that you really have to apologize? Uuh, because, it is not really your fault, that maybe your world has some bad things in it. I mean, mine did too, and those are things, you can't really control.

...Still. I... should've stopped it earlier. If I weren't so stupid. And I ate it again even though I'd already gone through it before.

[The hand holding the cup shakes a little bit and some of the liquid sloshes out.]

[And here comes a Luke.

He looks like he's in pretty terrible shape, physically and mentally, and on top of that it doesn't look like he got much sleep. Probably because he didn't sleep at all last night.

He nods in acknowledgement, but he doesn't feel like talking too much. Surprising, considering the previous day he couldn't speak at all.]

Hi, Lucas.

[Luke will receive a tired smile and a pat on the porch beside him, a gesture for him to sit down.]

...Hi.

[Luke sits down, looking at the sidewalk.]

How are you?

[He's going to hold off talking about the whole mushroom thing for the moment.]

Not bad.

[Lucas stares at a spot at Luke's shoulder for a little while.]

Um. How about you?

[He heard you on the phone earlier, but he's not here to ask for wahtever you're offering.

He just came so he can take a seat next to you.] You okay? I'm guessing that along with everyone else, you were affected too.

[Lucas just glances up and nods a little bit.]

I didn't ever think something like this could've happened. I should've been more careful.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Mistakes happen you know.

And people might be glad that it wasn't real at least. [Ruffling your hair a bit.] And you're trying to fix things. That's a respectable thing to do.

How do I fix breaking peoples' hearts?

[That seems to be a rhetorical question. Lucas will manage to look slightly less depressed, though.]

I just hope nobody's been too badly hurt by all this.

[Hanging out with him on the porch.]

Y'know, it's not your fault. It's not like you were askin' for any stupid mushrooms in the first place.

[Lucas clutches the jug of coffee tightly as he gazes down into its murky depths. ...Somehow, that makes him feel better.]

I-I know. But. I could've stopped it earlier. I should've gone to the Post Office as soon as I got the empty box.

[She puts a hand on his shoulder.]

So it was an empty box. There's no way you coulda known what would happen.

...It was suspicious.

It's like those gift boxes that have nothing except explosions inside them, right?

It's not your fault, son. You didn't ask for this.

Maybe not, but... it's still my responsibility. They're from my world. They were given to me. I should've stopped it.

Responsibility, maybe. But you did your best to stop it and you're doing your best to make everybody feel better after what happened. I'd hardly call it your 'fault'.

You're doing the mature thing, son.

I guess this is all I can do. It doesn't seem like enough to make up for it, but...
