Did actually you see Time of the Gypsies? I also saw it as a teen on television and remember it fondly, not for precise images but for its magical realist atmosphere. Definitely a film I need to watch again, and show to friends.

Ludovic and I finally watched Metropolis on DVD. I enjoyed it a lot. Over-the-top yet graceful. However, the radical in me was disappointed with the political subtext-let's avoid the extremism of both capitalism and communism, social-democratic capitalism is the middle way. It's so 20th century! In retrospect, the whole movie is actually a lucid, prophetic summary of the 20th century. Impressive.

I didn't end up seeing it finally. We saw Goya's Ghost in the end.

It wasn't a bad film, but I wish I had seen the Time of the gypsies. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.
