Torchwood: Miracle Day, In Ten Nutshells

Sep 17, 2011 11:55

Okay, okay. Long time no see. My bad. But my life has been pretty turbulent and torn over the past few months, so I'm not as sorry as I probably should be. Anyhoo, consider this post a forewarning for the upcoming Torchwood Big Bang - there's fic on the horizon! Yay! Finally!

In other news, Torchwood: Miracle Day has aired. Yes, I watched it. ( Read more... )

oh my god, this was histerical. yep, pretty much sums up miracle day doesn't it. i refuse to believe that this was torchwood, perhaps we were taken to some alternate universe. RTD, what the hell have you done to a wonderful show(first two series anyway)

thanks for this, i really did have a good laugh

There was a conversation on Twitter between Jane Espenson and a Miracle Day fan where she basically explained away a continuity error in episode seven by saying we're in an alternate timestream.

Very funny, unfeminine snorts escaping as I read this and hey I haven't even watched Miracle Day, so imagine my reaction if I had!

Holy crap, Silver! *Hugs* Hope things are going better for you now.

Not gonna lie, I have absolutely no intentions of watching Generic American Action Show Miracle Day. I've read bits and pieces about what happened and...yeah, I feel justified in my choice.

The one decent new character that gets introduced? Yep, she gets killed off. Big shock there. RTD masturbates to that trope.

Suffice it to say, despite not watching it, I'm positive that your nutshell synopsis is far more entertaining than the show itself.

I'm sort of glad I watched it. I mean ... at least we got Angelo out of it. I found that adorable little guy totally adorable. ADORABLE. I said it THREE TIMES so that makes it true.

Agreed on Vera. She was the only one with any kind of intelligence - but apparently she left that at the door in episode five when she started taunting the mad man with the gun about how she was going to totally ruin his life.

The only thing that happened that I didn't predict was how truly, truly awful it was. That, and from premier to finale the Starz ratings were down exactly by 50%. When you take into account the average number of viewers for the series overall was 645k and the finale didn't even make that .... there's something wrong.

Yeah, I heard (with some satisfaction, I'm pretty petty like that) that the Viewing Ratings in the US had pretty much tanked from beginning to end. If Starz cancelled Camelot (which, ironically, I did watch and kinda enjoyed) over such figures, then I can't see much hope for more Americawood on that station.

I'm actually kind of morbidly curious to know how well it did here in the UK.

Not particularly well. It didn't win its time slot four weeks out of ten - and that was in the latter half of the series, where theoretically ratings should be increasing as it 'gets good'.

Here's a handy spreadsheet, courtesy of somebody on Twitter, tracking the US, Australian and UK ratings:

This.*applauds* You basically nailed it.

I watched it all, and was reasonably entertained, but as usual they killed the only two 'team members' I liked (not counting the awesome Rhys and Andy). And as for the blessing itself - they didn't explain that at all, as far as I can tell!

For the first time ever, Rhys grated on me. That moment in 'The Gathering' when he was emptying his beer spray over Oswald? I just wondered where my Rhys was :(

The rest of the time, though, he was the lone island of Classic Torchwood in this massive ocean of filler, patronisation and gratuitous sex and violence. Andy would be there with him, but he jumped ship and sailed away as fast as he bloody well could.

Yeah, he spent the time at the Edinburgh Festival :)

I DID watch MD- just to see how bad TPTB could make it- it exceeded my expectations: it was worse than I could have ever imagined (I kept falling asleep through episodes and having to iPlayer them)! Basically, I could have just saved 10 hours of my life and waited for this! You've captured the thing perfectly!
