Today around 3 pm Pepe and I left the apartment for a bit. A few minutes later Pepe retutned and found that someone had broken off a piece of metal in the lock and tried to kick the door in! Sounds like the maintenance guy is hiding something. Might want to get a small camera and watch the door.

I know we did. It's a networked WIFI/Ethernet camera from Linksys. For $100 it'll do motion detection and email you the videos directly. No computer needed past the setup. They can steal the camera and your computers and you will still have the evidence.

Every time I see a summary of silicon valley criminal activity, there are always multiple house breakins reported. I got one of those wifi cameras, the only problem is that other 2.4GHz traffic would interfere and add distortion to the image, which the software would interpret as movement and start recording unnecessarily. The lighting also had to be right, it's a lot of work to set up! I hope it doesn't happen again. =/

Robberies are not always solved.
Even when solved, you don't always get your stuff back.
Renter's insurance is inexpensive and may cover everything that is stolen.
To enhance your chances of finding the crook and keeping your investments, do both.

I agree with this. I'm paying $10/mo with State Farm. Which actually lowered my car insurance with them $12! So I'm actually SAVING money by having renter's insurance. :)

... covers stuff stolen from my car too, oddly enough. My car insurance doesn't, it just covers the broken window. heh
